      <description> &lt;p&gt;&lt;p&gt; Ball State won't play for the Mid-American Conference championship this season like it did last year, and it hasn't affected the outcome of the West and East division races by beating contenders.&lt;/p&gt;
 But the Cardinals have hands-on knowledge of which teams have the best chance to win the conference title when the championship game is played Dec. 4 in Detroit.&lt;/p&gt;
 Ball State lost to the top two teams in the MAC West when it fell in consecutive games to Northern Illinois and Central Michigan.&lt;/p&gt;
 The Cardinals played the top two teams in the MAC East, Temple and Ohio, in October.
