A disappointing season simply worsened for Arkansas State in a 38-14 loss at Middle Tennessee State.

The Red Wolves, who were picked to finish second in the league, fell into seventh place in the Sun Belt Conference with their sixth defeat against one conference victory.

Overall, they are 2-8 on the season.

"We got off to a rocky start, gave up a couple of big plays and let them hop out into a lead," coach Steve Roberts said. "We had opportunities to move the football and had big plays, but they were called back, and that really cost us.

The Blue Raiders scored on an 80-yard pass play on their second offensive play and ran up a 24-0 lead before the Red Wolves scored their first touchdown late in the second quarter.
