Air Force linebacker Andre Morris Jr. didn't lead the team in tackles, didn't have any sacks, and didn't really turn in any spectacular plays. Still, he may have made the biggest impact of all in Air Force's 35-7 win over Army on Saturday. Morris motivated his teammates with a halftime rant inside the locker room, lighting a desperately needed fire under the Falcons.

The Army-Air Force football game is under way after a moment of silence for the victims of the Fort Hood shootings. The brief observance at Falcon Stadium on Saturday was also meant to remember soldiers from nearby Fort Carson who have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Air Force to honor Texas victims before Army game (AP)

The Air Force Academy will hold a moment of silence in honor of the shooting victims at Fort Hood before Saturday's Army-Air Force game. Academy spokesman Troy Garnhart says the observance will also honor soldiers from nearby Fort Carson who've been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. The academy and Fort Carson are on the outskirts of Colorado Springs.

Don't expect aerial fireworks on Saturday when Air Force plays host to service academy rival Army.

The Falcons and Black Knights rank 119th and 120th, respectively, out of the 120 Football Bowl Subdivision teams in passing offense. The third service academy, Navy, ranks 118th.

"You look right now, all three service academies realize the way you give your kids the best chance to win is to be able to be decent running the football," Air Force coach Troy Calhoun said.

And yet Air Force's offense looked the best it has all season last Saturday at Colorado State when it integrated some effective passing into its attack.

Sophomore quarterback Tim Jefferson, in his return to the starting lineup, completed 7 of 12 passes for 111 yards and two scores.

Tim Jefferson did less thinking and better playing. Jefferson, starting for the injured Connor Dietz, threw two touchdowns passes and Air Force rolled to a 34-16 victory over Colorado State on Saturday. "Before I would think a lot when I was out on the field," Jefferson said. "When I got to sit back and watch Connor, relax and see how the team moved progressively down the field.
