Scouting Report on Mack Brown

How we scouted: Film footage, In-person visits, Game setting, Campby Barry Every - 08/17/2009

  • ElusivenessBlue Chip
On the Hoof: May actually be a little shorter than 5 feet 11, but he has tremendous overall body structure with the ability to add at least another 15 pounds of muscle mass. Physically he is built like Tennessee freshman David Oku.
Needs Improvement: He does not back down from contact or running the ball between the tackles, so adding muscle mass should help with durability and his ability to break tackles. Brown also needs more reps catching balls out of the backfield, something his high school does not do often.
Most Impressive: Has very good speed and a beautiful, long stride once he hits the open field. Brown also has natural forward body lean and seems to gain that extra yard after contact.
Conclusion: Right now he may not be an every-down back at the next level because of his size and running style. Once he adds weight, he could become a real threat to score at any point on the field because of his homerun speed. He could easily see time as a freshman if he proves to have adequate hands and the ability to pick up blitzing linebackers in pass protection. He may also get a chance to return kicks early in his career.
