On the Hoof: The classic tweener linebacker/defensive end-hybrid athlete. Shirley has wide, thick shoulders with long, muscular arms. His lower body is very athletic and strong, which allows him to explode of the edge as a pass rusher.
Needs Improvement: If he is to play linebacker at the next level, he must work on flexibility and playing in space. As a defensive end, he will need to add another 25 pounds of muscle mass to be effective against the run.
Most Impressive: Very explosive athlete with very good speed and a high-motor kid that will not quit. He will give his best effort 100 percent of the time whether in practice or the game.
Conclusion: He will either become an undersized defensive end that will be a terror off the edge or a huge linebacker that excels as a pass rusher. Funny thing is this is the type of player that keeps getting drafted in the NFL, like Brian Orakpo and Aaron Maybin.
