Scouting Report on Evan Washington

How we scouted: Film footage, In-person visits, Game settingby Barton Simmons - 10/12/2009
  • SpeedDivision I Player
  • SizeBlue Chip
  • StrengthDivision I Player
  • AgilityBlue Chip
  • Foot QuicknessBlue Chip
On the Hoof: Washington has a great offensive line body structure. He is tall and thick throughout the body, with a sturdy but athletic base. He also has an uncharacteristically low percentage of bad weight on him for a high school lineman.
Needs improvement: His physicality needs to improve on the college level. Tends to rely on his oversized body on the high school level to overwhelm defenders but does not seek contact and thrive on physicality. Needs to use his hands at the point of attack instead of his forearms.
Most impressive: Washington is extremely athletic for a player of his size. He has a basketball background that has translated into very good feet and foot quickness. Has the most upside as a pass protector because of his long arms and his ability to get depth on his pass sets quickly.
Conclusion: The son of an NFL veteran, Washington’s allure is his upside. Prior to his junior season, Washington had never played football, instead spending his time on the basketball court. Because of his frame, athleticism and pedigree he could become a great college football player but he is a good ways from being a finished product.

Barton Simmons is a Football Recruiting Analyst for Rivals.com. He was an all-state performer for two-time state champion and nationally ranked Nashville (Tenn.) Montgomery Bell Academy in high school and was a two-time All-Ivy selection as a safety at Yale.
