Scouting Report on Evan Hailes

How we scouted: Film footage, In-person visits, Game setting, Campby Barry Every - 10/12/2009
  • SpeedDivision I Player
  • SizeDivision I Player
  • StrengthBlue Chip
  • AgilityDivision I Player
  • Lateral PursuitDivision I Player
On the Hoof: Hailes has a short, stocky tree trunk type body that looks real hard to move with his natural leverage. He is a tad heavy in the midsection, and has a huge, wide powerbase that makes it hard for him to be knocked over. He is built a little like a young Casey Hampton of the Steelers.
Needs improvement: He needs to redistribute some bad bodyweight from his midsection. Hailes must improve lateral movement and agility which will help him pursue plays from sideline to sideline. Working on getting off the double team and still wreak havoc in the run game is another area he could improve upon.
Most impressive: Plays with excellent natural leverage, which allows him to get underneath offensive linemen. He is very strong, especially his lower body which helps him with his leg drive. Hailes is also one of the few linemen that excels when the play is coming right at him. He is a space eater, which allows others teammates to make plays.
Conclusion: His size and strength will allow him to battle for playing time early on as long as he comes into camp in shape. He has the potential to be a very good college player, but his height may hurt long-term goals of playing football at the professional level.
