On the Hoof: Loften is a sawed-off safety with a compact, muscular frame. He should easily bulk up into a stout, toned safety at the college level with limited height.
Needs improvement: Loften needs to temper his aggression at times and commit himself to pass coverage. He is a capable center fielder but must prove he can run with slot receivers and tight ends in man coverage.
Most impressive: Loften is a springy, explosive athlete that is a huge striker that brings a major pop at the point of attack. His size allows him to play with great leverage and tackle well, especially in space. Despite his limited size, Loften will be a major factor in the run game and inside the tackle box.
Conclusion: Because of his athleticism and physical mentality, Loften can be an immediate contributor on special teams. If he proves that he can be a factor in coverage, Loften has the ability to be a major impact player because of his playmaking ability in the run game.

Barton Simmons is a Football Recruiting Analyst for Rivals.com. He was an all-state performer for two-time state champion and nationally ranked Nashville (Tenn.) Montgomery Bell Academy in high school and was a two-time All-Ivy selection as a safety at Yale.
