Darious Cummings

On the Hoof: Cummings is somewhat of a tweener in size. At 6 feet 3, he doesn’t have the height of a prototypical defensive end but doesn’t quite have the mass of a prototypical defensive tackle. Doesn’t have a lot of muscle definition, but he does have a broad chest and good strength throughout, likely with the ability to add considerable weight.
Needs improvement: Cummings’ size makes him a bit of an unknown as far as how he will ultimately be utilized. As an interior defender, he’s not going to be a space eater that occupies a lot of offensive linemen and will have to maintain his athleticism to be disruptive.
Most impressive: Cummings is intense and physical. He plays with a high motor and a low pad level, making him a tough assignment to block. He can rush the edge or move inside and even has the athleticism to play tight end. He diagnoses plays well and takes flat, efficient angles to the ball.
Conclusion: Body structure, physical strengths and his motor may see Cummings ultimately be a defensive tackle at the next level, and he could be a good one. He doesn’t wow you on the hoof when you look at him, but his production does and ultimately that’s all that matters. May not have as high of a ceiling as some but has a much higher floor than most.
