On the Hoof: His most prominent features are his extremely long arms and huge hands. Shell has little bad body weight while his lower body is lean and athletic for an offensive lineman, similar to 2010 U.S. Army All-American Shon Coleman.
Needs Improvement: Needs to do a better job of using his arms and quick feet to keep defenders from cutting him down low, causing a pile at the line of scrimmage. Shell needs to be more physical at the point of attack. He also gets very little opportunity to pass protect in a run-dominated offense.
Most Impressive: He has one of the best frames in the entire country and may actually project better as a left offensive tackle because he is very light on his feet. Shell has the athleticism to get downfield and block smaller, quicker athletes. He has excellent hip and knee flexibility, which helps him get good pad level for a tall lineman.
Conclusion: The fact that he does not get much chance to pass block could mean a redshirt year. You can expect him to become a two- to three-year starter because huge, athletic linemen like Shell are rare.
