Grambling State edges Jackson State 26-23
Saturday, Nov 5, 2011JACKSON, Miss. (AP)—Dawrence Roberts scored on a 10-yard run with 1:24 left and Grambling State held on for a 26-23 win over Jackson State on Saturday.
Roberts, who ran for two touchdowns and 201 yards on 23 carries, capped a three-play, 18-yard drive for the final margin that came after a fumble by Jackson State. Grambling State (5-4, 4-3 Southwest Athletic Conference) punted the ball away to Antonio Sutton, who fumbled, giving the ball back to Grambling State on the Jackson State 18.
Following Roberts’ score, Jackson State (7-2, 5-2) drove into Grambling State territory and had first-and-10 on the Grambling State 14.
With the clock winding down, Jackson State chose to go for the win rather than a potential tying field goal, and Casey Therriault’s pass went long.
Therriault finished with 400 yards and two touchdowns on 34 of 55 passes.
Jackson State ended a four-game winning streak.
