Carkhuff leads Davidson past Johnson C. Smith 35-7
Saturday, Sep 24, 2011DAVIDSON, N.C. (AP)—Jonathan Carkhuff threw five touchdowns as Davidson scored 35 unanswered to come back to beat Johnson C. Smith 35-7 on Saturday night.
After an early Johnson C. Smith (2-2) touchdown, Carkhuff rallied Davidson and led five consecutive touchdown drives.
Carkhuff connected with Tim Hines on a 66-yard pass to tie the game 7-7 in the second quarter and then again with Hines from 20 yards out in the third to give the Wildcats a 21-7 lead. Carkhuff’s final two touchdowns both went to receiver Lanny Funsten, one from 9 yards out and another that Funsten took for 99 yards.
Carkhuff finished with 427 yards on 23 of 45 passing while Funsten recorded 7 catches for 195 yards.
The Wildcats (2-1) also had a solid rushing attack as Clem Butler racked up 121 yards on 16 carries.
Keahn Wallace did it all for the Golden Bulls, racking up 251 total yards.
