LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP)—Nevada rushed for 575 yards—and shattered some NCAA record in the process—as the Wolf Pack beat New Mexico State 63-20 Saturday night.

Luke Lippincott had 162 yards on 19 carries, putting him at 1,028 yards for the season. He joined quarterback Colin Kaepernick and running back Vaia Taua as 1,000-yard rushers on the Wolf Pack roster, and Nevada became the first team in NCAA history to have three players in one season top 1,000 yards rushing.

Lippincott crossed the threshold on a 32-yard touchdown in the third quarter, which put Nevada (8-3, 7-0 Western Athletic Conference) up 49-6.

Kaepernick ran for 114 yards and two touchdowns while throwing for 96 yards and two more scores.

Marcus Allen had two touchdowns on five catches for New Mexico State (3-8, 1-5). Nevada outgained New Mexico State 671 yards to 232.

Wow...another embarrassing loss for the Aggies...lets hear some more excuses...the coach is new, it's a rebuilding year...blah blah blah....get rid of football if you aren't going to put a respectable team on the field. Let see how many records Boise State is going to break against a team that would probably lose to some high school teams.

For everyone, the NCAA changed the rules several years ago to allow one win versus a non FBS team to count towards a win to gain bowl eligibility. All the teams want to make money so they would be idiots to not schedule a cupcake to give them a win to get in a bowl game. It's all about money and until it isn't nothing will change. Everyone should try to find the interview Dan Patrick just had with the executive director of the BCS Friday. It's ridiculous.

Only the fans and coaches want a playoff, nobody that manages the money does. Sad.

A couple of things first the SEC and PAC 1O are both overrated, the SEC has a few great team but the rest are average or worse, the PAC 10 most teams are very good but nobody great. OSU, PSU, and Iowa from BIG 10 will win their bowl games. I like the system they have now except for a few things teams like Florida, Alabama, Texas, and even Iowa although I'm a Hawkeye fan and other teams when they play a division 2 team it should count as a loss no matter what the score. Teams should no longer be allowed too play 7 or 8 home games during the year and there should not be any more automatic berths for certain conferences we could end up with a few 3 loss teams playing in BCS games instead of undefeated teams. Now UNR I'm also a wolfpack fan playing a tough early schedule should benefit them greatly next year and even though they weren't playing good then and loss , I still prefer that over playing division 2 teams The game in Boise could be another OT game like 2 years ago only a different outcome UNR wins Friday night.

Whoaaaaaaa. Cult Hero. Take a breath. Do you feel better after getting that off your chest? It's noon here in Minneapolis. Have a beer. On me. I can't agree with you more. The system is rigged towards the six BCS conferences. That needs to change. The NCAA wants the other conferences to improve, but then gives them no incentive when they do. WE NEED A NATIONAL PLAYOFF SYSTEM IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL. PERIOD. Remember the 1-AA playoffs, when the PACK finished runnerup to Georgia Southern? Those were the days. Actual playoffs. Where is Coach Mora when we need him ........ Playoffs?..... Playoffs?

Craig, BSU did do a shellacking on Oregon. Ignore the points. Boise St. made some key errors in the red zone a BUNCH of times. The game could have easily been a 32 point game, rather than 11. I mean, it wasn't, but anyone watching that game knew that BSU was NEVER out of control of the game. Oregon was flat out owned and they looked terrible. (Of course, BSU looked sloppy as hell, which is why it was an 11 point game and not a 32 point game.)

"or you jackasses that say the SEC is overrated, what conference has given us the last three NCAA DI champions? Shut your pie-holes you ignor@#$%es. ;)"

That doesn't mean anything since the way the SEC got into the National Championship game in the first place is based entirely on the conference's hype. Two 1-loss teams played in the NC game last year when there were TWO undefeated teams from non Big Six conferences that deserved to be in the BCS and at least one of them (Utah) should have been in the NC. (For the record, The Big 12 was also overrated last year, as the NC and most of the Bowl games showed. They were ranked because they started ranked and played one another. How's that for self fulfilling?)

I think Utah could have beaten Florida. I'm not saying they were favored, but you know... they beat Alabama worse than Florida and while that in no way transitions to X team is better than Y, it still indicates Utah was more than capable of playing with the "big boys" (despite the fact the as TCU is again demonstrating this year, the MWC IS the "big boys"). In additional, Boise St. sure as hell deserved to be in the BCS and frankly, so did TCU.

What did we get instead? We got the same crappy anointed conferences who made it into the big games by the power of the preseason hype. USC should have been in the NC game last year when you look at what the Pac-10 did to everyone else in the bowls. They'd played through a hard conference--certainly harder than the defense-lacking Big 12. They had one loss just like Florida and OU. However, because the Pac-10 beat itself up (like it's doing this year... is a good conference measured by the strength of all of it's teams, or just #1?) their rankings suffered and until it came bowl season for them to show their strength, it was presumed USC didn't deserve to be in the game.

My point? (Aside from the fact that the BCS and ANY system that uses hype, popularity and past seasons' performances to establish rankings is a joke?) The SEC is most certainly overrated. Well, I take that back. I believe the SEC is overrated because their strength is based on...? What? The fact that it has to play itself and ESPN thinks it's the best conference in the world? Until we have playoffs and SEC teams scheduling REAL out of conference matchups (as opposed to say... Florida International and Chattanooga) we'll never know.

Say what you like about USC and OU, but at least they don't schedule FCS cupcakes and aren't afraid to play real teams outside their own conferences. I respect Pete Carroll a lot for that, and grudgingly respect Bob Stoops (he annoys me otherwise) for that.

For you stats freaks consider the following.

Nevada is the #1 rushing offense in the nation with a staggering 373 yards per game! That is almost 60 yards per game more than an impressive 10-1 Georgia Tech team, the only other team in Div 1 football averaging over 300 yards per game rushing. Nevada is #2 in the nation for yards per game, behind the also impressive 9-2 Houston Cougars. Lastly, Nevada is the #4 team in the nation in total offense, one of four teams in the nation averaging over 40 points per game. Who is the number 1 team in that catagory???.... Boise State.

Next week's game between WAC conference undefeated teams Nevada and Boise State should be a game filled with offensive fireworks, and clearly, the winner of this game will be the team with the better defense as both teams have practicably unstoppable offensive programs.

IMHO, if Boise State can get past Nevada, and Oregon beats rival Oregon State, then Boise State should be assured of a BCS game because it would be unconscionable to snub them two years in a row as an undefeated team with having beaten a team that is lower ranked and is playing a BCS game.

    Next week will be interesting.

Nevada lost to Notre Dame because:

    1. It was a terrible way to start the season. There was too much pressure going into the game and I think they were flat out overwhelmed by going into ND.

    2. Their defense was and still is pretty lousy. Not to mention, I have no idea what the defensive coordinator was thinking since Nevada didn't blitz at all. If they lose to Boise St., it's gonna be their defense that causes it. Chris Ault is a great offensive coach but I've been watching Nevada play since I got free tickets to the games as a Pop Warner Football player in the 6th grade and their D has always been lackluster. If they got a defensive coordinator that was as creative and talented as Ault, watch out BCS!

If Nevada had played some easier teams to warm their season up and then played Mizz, ND and Colo St., we'd have a hell of a game coming up with Boise St. and Nevada both being undefeated. We're going to have a hell of a game coming up anyway, but it sure would be cool if they were playing for a spot in the BCS. In a way, if Nevada wins it kinda hurts the conference financially. How terrible is that?

I was born and raised in Reno though and they're my team. GO PACK!

One more thing. The PACK lost to Notre Shame for a couple of reasons. The offense made several key turnovers in the red zone. And, as we all know, the PACK's secondary is suspect (to say the least) and was/is subject to "the big play". We (those of us PACK fans that were at the Notre Lame game) knew the PACK wasn't going to win, but we were sure hoping for a better showing than what we got (More like 28-17). In retrospect, it appears the team didn't wake up and start playing until the rivalry game against UNLV, which cost their coach his job. GO PACK !!!!

It's funny. This article is about the University of Nevada and their win over New Mexico State. The comments are about Boise State and the SEC. Can't you morons find the right place to voice your opinions. The SEC folks need to shut their pieholes this week as their "powerhouse" teams (Florida and Alabama) played 1-AA schools. YIPPEE SKIPPEE. Those scores should be posted on the high school sports page. Lets move on. Boise, Boise, Boise. Yes, just like TCU and Cincinnati they are what they are (undefeated) by who they played. End of that argument. Now, to what this is really about - THE NEVADA WOLF PACK. Congrats for setting a new NCAA record with three 1,000 yard rushers. Never been done before. I am amazed by this, as when I was at Nevada (1982- 1984), Coach Ault was known for passing (In the 1-AA Big Sky Conference). He has taken this program a long way. However, there is one more monkey he needs to get off his back and that is nine straight losses to Boise. Friday's game looks to be a great matchup. We, as college football fans, will see the first conference championship of the season. GO PACK!!!! BEAT BOISE !!!!!

I don't care what the circumstances are, 575 rushing yards is off the chain. If Nevada can find some semblance of a defense, they will upset Boise St.

it's quite simple, the non "big 6" conferences need to get together and form their own championship weekend. Move that champion to an automatic BCS bid. TCU vs. Boise the first week of December and if any of the top 3 are unimpressive during their championship, they could leap into the title game.

If takes two to play the game. Stop hating on Boise St and TCU's schedule when they contact the big six conferences for games and the big six conerences avoid them like the plague. The way games are scheduled needs to be changed. The NCAA should have a say in who and how these games get scheduled. Some of these games are schedules 5 or 6 years in advance. They should be scheduled only a year in advance and the NCAA should be making sure everyone plays a similar schedule as far as win-loss goes. So, that way every team would be playing a great team from the year before, a not so great team from the year before and a couple teams that finished in the middle of the pack. That keeps everyone's non conference schedules fair and even and then the conference games are even more important.

Let me get this straight. The supposed 2 best teams in the country played FIU and Chatt and everyone is down on Boise St and TCU's schedule? Did those 2 play either of those lollipop teams. Why didn't Florida and Bama play a local high school? Same result. And I still haven't heard of any major school answering Boise's Challenge! Let's call it as it is. The truth is, nobody wants to play boise or TCU because it might just cost them a major bowl game. Boise and TCu should boycott the BCS and play each other. I would recognize the winner as the national champ.

I think if the WAC and MWC winners were included in the BCS bowls as automatics, there would be a huge shift in the top conferences in the US. It would be very easy to recruit players and coaches to western schools in Idaho, California, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico---beautiful towns and cities, awesome growing campuses, and great climate. For now, fewer top players come because they want to get into the biggest bowl games. And of course the political powers that be won't let this shift happen without a fight. When it does though, lets see what happens.

    Okay #14,

You need to do more research BSU played four Bowl Subdivision teams in their nonconference schedule. Now only one of those four was from a big six conference but four of the five were Bowl Subdivision teams.

I have watched BSU play and they are a very good team and would compete in any league, would they go undefeated probably not but they would compete very well with them.

Also I think that BSU and TCU should be consider for a NC game if they go undefeated. Everyone is complaining about their schedule and the leagues that they are in but if you look back to Florida State they won NCs when they dominated a weak ACC. The ACC had to add more teams to make it a better football league and they still aren't the top football league but are competitive from top to bottom and FSU does not dominate that league anymore. So I say let BSU and TCU compete for the NC if they go undefeated. FSU did it so why can't they.

By the way I'm a BUCKEYES fan and I can admit that the SEC has been the best league for a while but that will change it always does in college football. From year to year any league can be the best and right now it is the SEC but right now from top to bottom it might be the PAC 10. Anyway right now there are three conferences that have 4 teams ranked (ACC, PAC 10, BIG TEN) no SEC. We will see after the bowl games which is best. This is why I love college football it is very competed.

and you have the nerve to call logical thinkers all those filthy names?
