PASADENA, Calif. (AP)—Kevin Craft passed for 159 yards in the second half after taking over for injured Kevin Prince, and UCLA made a late defensive stand to snap its five-game losing streak with a 24-23 victory over Washington on Saturday.

Rahim Moore intercepted Jake Locker’s deflected pass near the UCLA 20 in the final minute for the Bruins (4-5, 1-5 Pac-10), who ended a school record-tying seven-game conference skid despite losing Prince on a helmet-to-helmet hit late in the first half.

Craft, the Bruins’ starter last season before losing his job to Prince, led their comeback from a nine-point deficit, going 10 for 14 with a 29-yard TD pass to Terrence Austin. The UCLA defense also shut out Locker and the Huskies (3-6, 2-4) in the final 26 minutes.

Locker passed for 235 yards and connected with Jermaine Kearse for two touchdowns, but the fleet-footed quarterback rushed for just 23 yards while playing with a deep thigh bruise in Washington’s fifth loss in six games since beating Southern California. Kearse had seven catches for 114 yards, none in the fourth quarter.

After Kearse’s 34-yard TD catch put Washington up 23-14 early in the third, the Bruins came back with Austin’s TD catch and went ahead on Kai Forbath’s 27-yard field goal just 7 seconds into the fourth quarter.

Erik Folk missed a 38-yard field goal attempt for Washington moments later, and the Huskies didn’t score again.

Prince passed for 212 yards before a helmet-to-helmet hit from Washington linebacker Donald Butler sidelined him late in the first half. UCLA also committed five turnovers, including two fumbles by tailback Johnathan Franklin, while Locker’s interception was the Huskies’ only turnover.

Locker drove the Huskies from the 11 to midfield in the final 4 1/2 minutes. When Kearse and cornerback Sheldon Price battled for a pass down the sideline, Kearse apparently tipped the ball in the air—and Moore, the NCAA co-leader in interceptions entering the game, scooted over to grab it for his eighth interception.

Chane Moline rushed for an early score for UCLA, and Nelson Rosario had seven catches for 111 yards.

Chris Polk rushed for 132 yards for Washington, which hasn’t won at UCLA since 1995.

Butler got a personal foul for the head-to-head hit on Prince as the quarterback slid to the turf. Prince remained prone for a few minutes before walking gingerly to the sideline, and UCLA linemen Mike Harris and Jeff Baca angrily screamed across the field at Butler.

Prince watched the second half from the sideline, still wearing his uniform. Before his injury, he managed to maintain the strong play from the long-struggling UCLA offense’s dynamic fourth quarter in a narrow loss to Oregon State last week.

UCLA moved 88 yards on its opening drive against the Huskies, with Prince going 6 for 7—including his 1-yard TD pass to Cory Harkey on fourth down.

UCLA made another 80-yard drive following Kearse’s first TD catch, but Folk’s third field goal put Washington up 16-14 midway through the second quarter. Prince was injured shortly afterward, and after backup Richard Brehaut fumbled on his first drive, Craft took over.

After Franklin’s second fumble early in the second half, Kearse made another difficult TD grab. Austin kept the Bruins close with his own remarkable TD catch, deflecting a pass into the air while diving near the goal line, then rolling over and catching it.

Dawgmeat, so easy to get under your skin... thanks for clarifying for me:

"any team that is +5 in turnover ratio should not need a last minute drive to win the game ..... so even with that COMPLETE BULLSH*T call ..... its Washingtons fault they lost."

    - Dawgmeat

I just like laughing at people like you. I might be a dumbass, but at least I will graduate from UCLA.

Re: post #18 - because not EVERY college football player is a money-grubbing S.O.B., that's why. As I stated in my earlier post Jake Locker appears to be pretty well-grounded, to me, meaning that he has a good head on his shoulders and isn't looking at playing football as nothing more than a chance to get a big paycheck in the NFL. I think he wants to enjoy his college experience as much as he can. The f*cking NFL can wait. And if he gets hurt? So what? I'm sure he can find other ways to fill his calendar after college aside from getting hit by 300 lb. freaks of nature looking to take his head off every time they line up for a play.

Boise State sucks. 5 - 4 overall in bowl games, sure, but 1 - 4 in their last 5 and only 2 - 3 in bowl games played outside of Boise. Boise State - the Brigham Young Cougars of the 2000s.

Gary B ........ you do know Washington beat the sh*t out of Boise State in 2007 .... right ????? Washington was a "bottom feeder" and Boise State had not lost a game since 2005.

might want to get a clue before you post. a Tyrone Willingham coached team ended Boise States longest winning streak in school history (in 1A at least). the same Washington team that ended up losing 9 of its next 11 games ..... but those bottom feeders beat Boise States ass.

Boise State fans like to brag about how they beat Oregon and Oklahoma ..... but the NEVER mention how Boise State is 3-17 in their other 20 games against BCS conference teams not named Oregon or Oklahoma ..... hmmmmm .... i wonder why?

SoCal ...... i was talking to my wife about the play calling. i dont have a real problem with the play calling in the middle of the field, although ive often wondered why they dont give Polk the ball more ...... its their play calling at the goal line that is bothering me. going back to the Notre Dame game ..... jesus christ ..... feel free to mix in a play action pass to the TE, Notre Dame was only lining 11 guys up over the center ........ and that Locker shotgun draw play is getting pretty damned predictable. one of my biggest problems with Pileofsh*tingham was his offense was so damned predictable ...... i literally could correctly guess the play they were going to run about 70% of the time. thats just me .... imagine what the other teams DC was thinking. im not going to get on Sark .... i still like the hire, i think he will be just fine.

I just wanted to see what else people had to say, and then I saw ozoc's comment....WTF?!?! Skin color has absolutely nothing to do with it! I am left shaking my head that someone even thought of that. Anyway, all real Dawg fans know where I'm coming from, so that's a good thing. I was willing to give Ty chances every year until his final season, when it was clear last year he had no clue how to coach a football team to greatness, just knew how to collect whopping paychecks while playing golf.

Not to have too much schadenfreude, but I am kinda hoping that with the recent performances of the team and himself that Locker's draft stock is dropping. If he falls to a 2nd-3rd round prospect, I feel fairly confident he will come back. I'm a HUGE fan of Jake, but like the other poster said, just look at Bradford. And Bradford came back to try for a second Heisman and a national title! Jake will have none of that to go for.

As far as the bogus TD, just another example of ridiculously bad Pac-10 officiating. By the rules of college football, it doesn't even make sense: If he DID catch the ball at the 4 (which everyone could see he didn't), then he is down at the 4. You cannot advance the ball after falling down in High School or College, only in the NFL. What made it even more excruciating to watch was that idiot James Washington in the booth. The play-by-play guys were bad enough, but he didn't even know the rules! On the reviewed Kearse TD, he remarked "now you need to have two feet in bounds": WRONG! This is college, jackass! One is all you need...and besides that, Kearse fell to one knee before going out: one knee = two feet. He was complementary of players on horrid plays that they weren't great on...that guy is borderline retarded, and has the GIRLIEST voice I have ever heard in the both. Nauseating!

Still, Dawg fans need to be upset with our own team. +5 in turnovers (that last pick by them I only kinda acknowledge) and only 3 FGs and one TD from that? The offense owes the D an apology for that game. And the D is not good. Still a terribly frustrating loss to think about, and frustration focused more and more on Sarkisian.

So the Bruins beat the Dawgs. Big Deal! The Pac 10 isn't all that strong. Got an opening in 2011? If so, Boise State would love the wipe the field with your bottom feeders.

From a long time Bruin fan: We were given a gift on Austins TD. But.........UW missed a FG that could have won the game....settled for three FG's from the Bruins 5 TO's. They had their chances to win the game. They were virtually shut out in the second half. Bruin defense bent but didn't break. That was the difference.

    Dawgmeat,
I'm down here in Anaheim Hills and I too listened to the "homers" calling the game. I thought they should have reviewed the play, but it was the terrible play calling that lost the Huskies the game. Chaulk another loss up to Sarkisian and his lack of head coaching ability / experience. And when it Nick Holt going to figure out that we need to put pressure on the quarterback???

dawsey ...... i dont know if you live in LA or Seattle ..... but i live in LA and was watching the UCLA play by play crew ....... they were LAUGHING in the booth over the play. they couldnt even PRETEND it was a catch it was so obvious the ball hit the ground. how that play was not reviewed is beyond me. i mean ..... even if it was a catch (which it wasnt) ...... the way that play went down .... it shouldve been reviewed just out of principle. the WR slides down to catch it, the ball pops in and out of his hands and up into the air as the WR rolls into the end zone .... then catches it on its way down. how the hell is a whacky ass play like that for a TD not reviewed ????? especially when it was so obvious it hit the ground ???

DAWGMEAT - I rarely agree with you even as a Huskies' fan, but for the refs not to even review the non-catch, bounce off the ground, catch - give me a break. Non-conclusive/conclusive replay call - no matter that was absurd for not lloking and a reason to get rid of replay all together if they will not use it for all disputable plays. HOMER JOB and classic example of PAC10 refs - terrible.

and for the record ...... i was vomiting during the game when the game announcers were talking about how good Washingtons kicker was. that guy is PURE GARBAGE. i cringe every time he lines up for a kick .... including extra points. that scud missile that came off his foot late in the 4th that wouldve won the game for Washington is all too common for him. that is the third time ive seen him kick a FG attempt like that. its one thing to miss a FG ...... but Folk misses FGs about as badly as a FG can possibly be missed. when he lined up for that FG ....... i said to my wife ..... no way in hell he makes this kick. no way in hell is he going 4 for 4 in FGs in a game ...... and what happened ???? he was 38 yards wide on a 38 yard FG.

Krazy ...... chill freak ........ i had things to do after the game. if you want reference ...... look at the Oregon game blog where i got a few jabs in to Oregon fans then said i had to leave for a few hours.

i would like to congratulate the Bruins, referees and replay booth for their victory today ...... WHAT HORSESH*T that was. the replay booth spend 4 hours reviewing an OBVIOUS touchdown of Washingtons, only to confirm it ..... then on UCLAs next drive .... UCLA gets a touchdown on a ball that CLEARLY hit the ground ..... and the play isnt even reviewed. that makes sense ...... review the clear cut touchdown and dont review the clear cut incomplete pass that was called a touchdown. incredible !!!!

that being said however ..... who knows .... maybe UCLA ends up scoring a touchdown on that drive anyway, but thats not the point ..... the point is they shouldve at least been forced to actually score a touchdown, and not be handed one on an incomplete pass. furthermore ...... any team that is +5 in turnover ratio should not need a last minute drive to win the game ..... so even with that COMPLETE BULLSH*T call ..... its Washingtons fault they lost.
