BOULDER, Colo. (AP)—Tyler Hansen overcame his second-straight eight-sack game to lead Colorado to a 35-34 win over the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday.

Patrick Devenny’s one-handed grab from 22 yards out tied it and Aric Goodman’s conversion sailed through to put the Buffaloes ahead by a point with 2:04 left.

After defensive back Anthony Perkins picked off Jerrod Johnson’s pass at midfield, the Aggies forced a punt, but Terrence Frederick muffed it and Buffs linebacker Marcus Burton recovered with 23 seconds to ice it.

Rodney Stewart ran 20 times for 118 yards and two touchdowns and Markques Simas caught seven passes for 135 yards for Colorado (3-6, 2-3 Big 12), which got the ball back with 3:53 left trailing 34-28.

Hansen had a delay flag and then was sacked for the seventh time, bringing up a second-and-25 from his 24. He was nearly dumped again but got off a shovel pass for 9 yards, then hit Simas for 45 yards to the Aggies’ 22. On the next snap, he threw over the middle to Devenny for the score.

Then, their defense and special teams came up big.

The Aggies (5-4, 2-3) looked like they were about to become bowl eligible when Cyrus Gray, whose 99-yard touchdown on a kickoff return helped them take a 21-10 halftime lead, returned a kickoff 45 yards to midfield in the fourth quarter. Cornerback Jalil Brown shoved him late out of bounds, tacking on another 15 yards.

That allowed the Aggies to start their drive at the Colorado 40-yard line, but they stalled at the 3 and settled for Randy Bullock’s 20-yard field goal that made it 34-28. That left 3:59 on the clock and the Buffs within a touchdown.

It was plenty for Hansen, who threw for 271 yards and ran for 45 more. His running yards would have been higher, but he lost 60 yards in sacks.

The Buffaloes had been reeling with coach Dan Hawkins on the cusp of his fourth-straight losing season and the departure during the week of sophomore tailback Darrell Scott, his prized recruit.

Some fans in the student sections at Folsom Field wore powder blue instead of gold in protest of the program’s slide into mediocrity. It was the color the team wore from 1981-84 when they went 10-34 overall during one of the worst stretches in school history.

But those same fans were among those who stormed the field afterward.

The Buffs scored 11 points in the third quarter to tie it at 21, but the Aggies answered with 10-straight points for a 31-21 lead.

Demetrius Sumler’s 7-yard TD run cut the Aggies’ advantage to 31-28 with 7:14 remaining.

Von Miller had two of the Aggies’ eight sacks, giving him 15 1/2 , tops in the country.

The Big 12 needs to dump Baylor and get Utah to join the conference
    -------------------------
I wish they would dump all the legacy SWC teams and go back to being the Big 8.

That's funny, cu and a&m fans throwing Baylor under the bus. They are on their 3rd string QB and still have a shot at not being in the Big 12 South cellar this year. Had their starting QB not gone down this year neither a&m or cu could have played with them. And I'm not sure they can anyway.

Pockpile- I respectfully disagree. I suggest make a trade with whatever conference the Horned Frogs of TCU are in, and give/beg/plead them to take Baylor. Considering they're such a sorry school, we may need to sweeten the deal a bit. But personally I like TCU in the Big 12 better. No offense, but Utah is a bit too far west. And would you want them to have to deal with the Buffalosers every single year in conference play?

Welcome to the suck, CU. Embrace it- become one with it.

Texas A&M has been so STRANGE this year!! Losing to Arkansas State in College Station, ... getting blown out by Kansas State ... blowing out Texas Tech, in Lubbock, no less!! Whether Texas A&M wins seems to depend on which team decides to show up ... but even their best team in College Station is not likely to dereail Texas this season. That said, it should be a hell of a game!! HOOK 'EM 'HORNS!!!

Damn A&M. Colorado. As a Texas Tech grad, I would like to say, way to represent the state of TX. The Big 12 is an absolute mess this year. As much as I hate to say it, and I HATE to say it, but thank goodness for Texas, or the Big 12 would be an absolute embarrassment.

Hey, "J", I'm a CU Buff fan and I'm a right wing militant, former Marine. I grew up in Colorado. Boulder was always a town full of fruits, nuts and ultra liberals. But most of the players and a good portion of the students don't fit that mold. The coaches that I recall, Eddie Crowder, Bill Mallory, Bill McCartney were a group of Christian Coalition types. They also had Chuck Fairbanks, but he was more of a thug. I haven't figured out Barnett yet. Hawkins - I'm not sure about. Coming from Boise - who knows. Rickey Neuheisel was definitely a flake (but he had a bit of larceny in him - except, unlike Fairbanks, he did win games).

I grew up 30 miles west of Denver. We always called Boulder the "People's Republic." But then, every state has one of them. Austin, Texas, for instance, is probably the most liberal part of the state - but it doesn't have the lib reputation of Boulder.

Stop asking for RC to come back Aggie fans....unless you're talking about becoming the defensive coordinator. That he could do, but offense is something he has no idea about. Our offense is light-years better than the days when RC was running the team and anyone that doesn't believe me can come over and we can sitdown and watch old games. Oh yeah, get ready to be bored to tears. RC's teams had many games where the offense produced 200-250 yards per game. Obviously those numbers won't cut it. Now with that said, the team really let down today and failed to win a game that they should have won. But hang in there Aggie fans. You can't snap your fingers and instantly have a consistent winner. Today was a step back, but overall we're progressing in the right direction and will get there.

No doubt Jake. Hansen is looking pretty good even while getting sacked 16 times in 2 weeks. Looks like he's growing every week. Would have been nice if this was his 9th start instead of his 2nd of the year.

What does being liberal have to do with storming the field? It's pretty sad that we've stooped to storming the field beating a mediocre team like A & M - but we're 2 - 6 going in and our best recruit just bailed out of the circus tent - can't say I blame the kids for storming it. They didn't happen to trample Hawkins did they?

"Could be worse, you could lose to Baylor"

The very thought alone would lead one to commit suicide. Losing to a third-rate Division III intramural squad like Baylor would be the ultimate humiliation.

I agree with Hoktari, they need to bring back R.C. This team is inconsistent and will probably finish the year at 6-6. It could have easily been at least a respectable 8-3. Theres always next year.

After 4 years of Hawkins, I couldn't really imagine anything more embarrassing than being a Buffs fan. Now I just found something more embarrassing. Being an A&M fan and watching your team hand one to the Buffs.

Go Buffs! And Go Hawkins! Anywhere will do!
