Moore brothers connect for TD in another Boise win

BOISE, Idaho (AP)—Kellen Moore was his usual, excellent self.

For his brother, contributing to another Boise State runaway was a new experience.

Kirby Moore caught his first college touchdown pass from big brother Kellen and the No. 6 Broncos were sharp once again, rolling over San Jose State 45-7 Saturday for their eighth straight win.

“I think everybody on our sideline had a smile on their face after that play because to get a chance to play Division I football with your brother when not that many guys get to play Division I football—and then your brother is good enough to play and you can then hook up for touchdowns, I think that’s really awesome,” Broncos coach Chris Petersen said. “I think that’s why Kirby came here for those exact situations.”

Kellen Moore finished with three TD passes and ran for another one, and the Broncos stayed perfect at 8-0 and in the hunt for a BCS bid with TCU, the other undefeated team from a conference that doesn’t automatically qualify for the prized postseason games.

“This is what I think: When you get caught up in those numbers and get caught up in the scores of games and get caught up in how bad you should be beating people, it works against you,” Petersen said. “I think sometimes in the first half when it’s not 24-0 in our favor, guys are looking around and fans are looking around and asking, ‘What’s going on?’ That’s not realistic football.”

Moore, who came into the game the nation’s most efficient passer, was 21 of 33 for 278 yards. He now has 24 touchdown passes this season, and the Broncos rolled up 430 yards in beating San Jose State (1-6, 0-3) for the 10th straight time.

Moore’s first was a 61-yarder to Kirby Moore that put the Broncos up 7-0 in the first quarter on the first brother-to-brother scoring pass in school history.

“We emptied out the backfield and we got a little heat,” Kellen Moore said. “But all the credit to him. He made a great play and that was pretty cool.”

With 1:35 left in the half, Moore engineered a six play, 45-yard scoring drive, capped with an 18-yard TD to Mitch Burroughs in the left corner of the end zone, giving the Broncos a 17-7 lead.

One play after the kickoff, Spartans running back LaMon Muldrow fumbled after being hit by safety Jason Robinson, who recovered the ball on the 22 with 23 seconds left.

After two misfires, Moore hit Tyler Shoemaker on a 21-yard pass, then scored on a 1-yard dive on the next play to put the Broncos up 24-7 at the half.

“I think right before half, that was a big swing for us,” Moore said. “We weren’t executing as well as we should have at the time, but we got a couple of touchdowns in there after our defense made some plays and that was a key point for us.”

The Broncos defense, stellar last week in a 54-9 win at Hawaii, held San Jose State to 92 yards rushing, 223 overall and had two sacks.

Early in the third quarter, cornerback Kyle Wilson stepped in front of Jorda LeSecla’s pass and raced 27 yards untouched to the end zone to put Boise State up 38-7.

“Heading into these last few games, we’re definitely trying to turn the dial up and get better as the season finishes,” said Wilson, an all-WAC cornerback who is rarely tested by opposing quarterbacks. “If I don’t get any more picks, but my teammates are taking the benefits, that’s fine with me.”

If there was a bright spot for the Spartans, it was their ability to tighten up their run defense. Coming into the game, the Spartans had been allowing 259 rushing yards per game. But they held the Broncos to 140 yards, most of those coming late with the game out of reach. The defensive line also pestered Moore in the first half, sacking him once and forcing Moore to fumble inside the red zone.

“Credit to San Jose, those guys hit our quarterback more than anybody else has all season,” Petersen said. “So, that’s a little bit of a wake-up call. We’ve got to make sure we protect him better.”

But the Spartans struggled on the other side of the ball.

LaSecla was 10 of 20 for just 79 yards and one touchdown, a 39-yarder to Marquis Avery that tied the game at 7 in the first quarter. But he was ineffective the rest of the way and ultimately replaced in the second half by Kyle Reed, last season’s starter. Reed was 6 of 12 for 52 yards, and he rushed six times for 28 yards.

“We did better than we’ve done this season, but we got to stop the whole team,” Spartans coach Dick Tomey said. “Clearly, we had a chance to be in a really tight game at the half. But we let it slip away right there before the half.”

Austin Pettis led the Broncos with five catches for 63 yards and a touchdown, while Kirby Moore had four catches for 80 yards.

LOL Boise will never, ever get the respect they deserve until they do each of the following:

    1. play in a real conference
    2. schedule real non-conference teams
    3. beat the real non-conference teams

even if they do this, there's no guarantee they'll get any recognition...this team has to do this consistently over a long period of time...like a michigan, florida, ohio state, notre dame, etc. ...

    it takes time....

    Oregon's better than USC.

Boise State is better than Oregon.

Now, reshuffle the BCS to reflect that.

Until the Broncos lose a game, no one can say with authority that they are not better than any other team playing football
    ------------------------
Unless Florida, Alabama or Texas lose, Boise State may be playing TCU in the bowl again. Not saying that would be a bad thing - last year's game was TCU 17 BSU 16. But both deserve more recognition for a top BCS Bowl. Utah of the MWC showed the world how to handle a top flight SEC team last year when they humiliated Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. But - they shouldn't have been playing Alabama. They should have been playing Florida.

ahh Smith, don't be an idiot. BSU doesn't have a say in who they play. They beat Oregon (which they still could, Jeremy B), so don't throw them out just because they are forced to have a lighter schedule. All the other ranked teams have had close wins over non-ranked teams.

Dan Squirrel, seriously, are you a moron, or just dropped on your head when you were kid? You're right though, your sister takes donkey punches like a champ.

I'm a huge Oregon fan but I was happy they scheduled Boise St. I understand from a political standpoint (that's what the bcs is) it wasn't smart but I don't care. I want to see the Ducks play good teams each week because it makes the games more exciting. I also think smaller market teams should have a shot to build a resume against bigger market teams.

I'm glad Boise took care of business tonight and any smart Duck or smart Bronco fan is rooting for the other team. The way Oregon has turned things around has sure helped Boise St and their argument for a BCS titile game. If Boise St were to lose a game this season it would make Oregon's loss to them look a lot worse.

At this point I believe that Boise St deserves to be higher ranked than Oregon, even though the BCS might shoot them above them when the next rankings come out. Having said that I also feel that if we got another shot at you we'd take care of business.

Good luck the rest of the way and please win your bowl game this year to stick it to the writers and the system.

Boise State and Fresno State are teams could compete in a BCS conference. Fresno State will travel to Wisconsin, Cincinnati, USC, UCLA, and any team that has the guts to take a chance on a WAC team. I am a Bulldog fan, but I have much respect for the Broncos. You can bet the other BCS teams do not want the Broncos on their schedule. That's why Oregon's complete beating of USC is so important. Oregon is a very program and they were beaten by the Broncos. Does this mean that BSU can beat USC? Not really, but it does mean that BSU beat a nationally ranked team that beat a nationally ranked team. The more they win, the increase in disrespect from the pundits. Any team from a mid-major that can run the table and get into a BCS bowl, more power to you!

#10 Once would have been a fluke, but the win you are so shocked about happened in each of the past two years and neither game was that much of a contest. I give credit to Oregon (loved watching them stomp USC) but scheduling Boise was the biggest mistake Oregon has made in a long time. Why is it such a surprise that Boise has a hard time getting solid programs to play them? The risk of having a great season screwed up by a little WAC team way to often a reality. Too bad Oregon wasn't smart like Washington, they had the good sense to schedule Idaho.

Hmmm.... Oregon is number one in the Pac10 and controls their own destiny. They just beat the heck out of the number five team in the country. I see they have a loss, but I can't remember who beat em... Oh yeh, it was those lowly BS Broncos.

    The BCS is BS

Bronco haters are so twisted that they even find fault in a WAC team playing the teams in their own conference? Damn right they should pat themselves on the back.

Boise State Broncos keep doing your thing! You have a fan here in North Carolina. Even though my NCSU Wolfpack are struggling, it makes me smile big time to see you guys doing so well!! Keep running the table and hopefully BSU can crash the BCS football invitational party!! GO BRONCOS!!!

It is nice to watch a team that actually as a solid run/pass DEFENSE!! Maybe your defensive coordinator can call our crappy D-Coordinator Mike Archer and tell him to learn how to teach defense to a team!!!

I am proud of my Boise State Broncos and Texas Christian Horned Frogs today because they both took care of business big time and stayed unbeaten to scare the piss out of the illlegal, corrupt, immoral. terrible B.S. (no C needed system). I graduated from Toledo, but every single person who went to a non B.S. (no C needed) system college needs to unite behind Boise State AND Texas Christian because they are fighting the war for all of us to gain equal educational and financial opportunity for all Division 1 - A colleges that play football and not just the sleazy, rich, white schools with the most political connections. Kellen Moore is the best quarterback in college football as he was last year and if there was any justice in college football Kellen Moore would be the winner of the Heisman Trophy and all the other top player awards in college football (I never thought Boise would find a quarterback who is way better than the great Jared Zabransky). I love the fraudulence of the B.S. (no C needed conferences) and their fan boys when they lie and say their teams play harder schedules than Boise State and Texas Christian when today Ohio State, for no reason, paid the weak sister of the Western Athletic Conference, New Mexico State, to fly across the nation and get beat up in Columbus (I will not even go in to Notre Lame beating the scrubs of the universe, who lost at home to Hawaii badly, in the Washington State Cougars).

Hey Jeremy B...thanks for the truthful insight. I, being a Florida resident, know first-hand how the BCS works. Simply win 7 games, show up when on national TV and you're guaranteed a bowl birth. As for the massively over-hyped Florida Gators, if they simply get to 9 wins, they're almost guaranteed a national title shot. Living in the southeast, I hear it every week. The best conference in college football is the SEC. I'd be a liar if I didn't at least say that the Florida Gaytors were a good football team. Alabama...another good team. After that there's Georgia, so-so at best. LSU and Arkansas...they're good teams every other week. Then there's Auburn, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, etc. (yawn) The rest of the BCS conferences follow a similar pattern. the BCS was created simply to ensure that the highest profile teams will play in the highest profile games. Teams like Boise State, TCU, Tulane, ect. simply cannot genterate the revenue desired by the NCAA and their sponsers. That is why these non-BCS teams will never compete for a national title. And personally speaking as a true fan of the sport of college fooball, I will never support a BCS team..Go Broncos

Keep it going Boise. I am an SEC fan and I am pulling for you guys. I am hoping for two of these teams run the table (TCU, Cincinnati, or Boise State) and make it to the NC game. Hopefully Oregon pulls through tonight. As long as they keep winning, it improves your chances. Time for the BCS to be blown up and done away with forever. It is a total crock of s%&?.

As an Iowa fan, I know all about national disrespect. Nice win Boise. However, it's going to be hard for you to get much more respect while you continue to crush patsy after patsy. There really is no good answer.

Top tier conference teams like Florida or Ohio State won't schedule you because there is nothing in it for them. It's the same reason they don't schedule Iowa. If they win, then they were supposed to win, BUT it's a very losable game, and can really hurt their national title hopes. So it's a lose-lose for them.

I cannot or will not disrespect Boise State because they've taken care of what they can control, unfortunately the pollsters will continue to talk trash about you, and the computers will hate on you for your weak schedule (which is the one thing Iowa has going for it).

Keep winning Boise, and let's hope for a Hawkeye-Bronco National Title Game which will be the least watched game in BCS history, and might just blow this whole thing up!!!!!!!!!

this is the way of the sportwriters of america . the team boise which wins in a big time fashion but loses ground in the bcs standings what gives this is a most corrupte system of chooceing the best team . this team chould win all its games and still not be considered for the top bowls because of the bias towards the sec,big twelve big ten pac ten . in any other sport throughout the world they play some sort of playoffs but not the good ole usa what b.s . that is.
