LUBBOCK, Texas (AP)—Baron Batch rushed for 123 yards and four touchdowns to help Texas Tech beat Kansas 42-21 on Saturday.

The Red Raiders scored 28 consecutive points in the fourth quarter to hand the Jayhawks their third consecutive loss. Batch had three of his four scores in the period.

Dezmon Briscoe had nine receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown for Kansas (5-3, 1-3 Big 12), which lost four of its five fumbles. Todd Reesing completed 20 of 35 passes for 181 yards, his worst outing since he got 162 yards last year against Kansas St.

Reesing’s 6-yard toss to Briscoe gave the Jayhawks a 21-14 lead with 5 seconds left in the third but Texas Tech (6-3, 3-2) dominated the fourth.

Batch had TD runs of 1 and 17 yards to give the Red Raiders a 28-21 lead with 8:49 remaining. LaRon Moore returned a fumbled snap 31 yards for another touchdown before Batch’s 11-yard run capped the scoring with 2:05 left.

The two offenses started slowly, with neither team crossing the 50 in the first quarter. Each team punted five times in the first half.

Texas Tech’s Seth Doege, a redshirt freshman making his first start, completed 14 of 28 passes for 159 yards, including a 61-yard strike to Detron Lewis that tied it at 7 early in the second.

One-time starter Taylor Potts replaced Doege in the second half and finished 11-for-19 for 94 yards.

Doege fumbled twice, leading to two Kansas TDs. Maxwell Onyegbule returned one 3 yards for the game’s first score. Toben Opurum had a tying 2-yard run with 47 seconds remaining in the second after Doege coughed it up again.

Reesing struggled against a consistently strong pass rush from the Red Raiders, who sacked him six times.

I played against doege in high school when he went to school in crane as a freshman he took his team to state and won. so i know how good of a quarterback he is not only throwing thew ball but he can run too but didnt show it. you could tell he was nervous and was constantly looking for the big play and the number 1 option instead of checking down or running. he is young and will become a great quarterback just give him time

I have a somewhat lame observation to make, but did anyone else appreciate Ryan Erxleben pinning Kansas inside their own 20 yard line on five out of seven punts? Most college punters are content to boom the football out of the back of the endzone, but Ryan will sacrifice distance to boost his net average.

Some people are out of line in their comments. Calm down about the basketball for one and let's just see what they do in the season. There are other top contenders too and you don't want to look foolish and have to eat your words. Plus I've seen that jump to the next sport every year with the chiefs and the royals which never pans and the fans look kind of stupid for it. KU is a fair football team this year which will get them into a bowl game. They are a good pass team and nothing else. The year KU went to the Orange Bowl, they were actually a well rounded team with a great pass game, even greater defense, and a solid run game. They didn't play the top south teams, but that doesn't mean that they would have lost to them either. It was an exciting year with Missouri and KU being so good and everyone will just have to except that.

While this looked like a pillow fight at the beginning of the game, I was glad to see the Tech defense finally get some gumption and performed. I sat through a second week of mediocre football at the Jones, but I'm glad this one had a more favorable ending. Leach has a bit of an issue here. Now that he has in fact started all of his QB's this season and has pulled all but Sticks at one time, what in the world can we expect 2 weeks from now in Stillwater? Will Sticks be well enough to start? If not, who will? The only guy that porbably has confidence right now and plays QB was on crutches.
It was also nice to see Batch run the ball. It was a shame we didn't see this last week with Batch, Jeffers, and Stephens. You can't tell me those boys on the o-line, patchwork or not don't know how to run block. Everyone learns how to do that when they first start playing in full pads.
While I know this is a very young team, it looks like we will end up the way everyone anticipated, 7-5 and a trip to Houston.

KU is a basketball school people relax, it is hard to be top notch at both football and basketball.

KU played an excelent defensive game, but something to take into consideration is that it was a freshman quarterback for Tech that was making his first start and trying to make to many things happen instead of looking for routes underneath, resulting in sacks. One KU score was because of a defensive return, and the other one was because they stared on the 5 anyway. But good game KU, hope yall have some success in the north division.

you people talk too much trash. i am a KU fan who doesn't need to say anything the facts are there.especially in basketball. and our football team is turning the corner we have been getting good recruits. just as good as your precious tigers and huskers. i think we took keeston terry from blue springs s from Neb and say what you want by simply hating. missouri couldn't of played TT any better and Neb already proved they couldn't. Ku, probably isn't the best in football in the north division. but in basketball we are hands down the team to beat. The X man with Aldrich and Collins(NBA 1st rounders). One ****/*****Thomas Robinson freshman and another ****** freshman in Elijah Johnson. Taylor and Releford will be much improved. look for KU to win the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship's back to back years. they are definitely the best and have a decent chance to finish 39-0.

I cannot say this enough - during KUs one good year, they were the 5th best team in the Big 12. Fact #1: their schedule did not include Texas, OU, or Tech that year. Fact #2: they lost to Missouri and didn't even win the North. They managed a BCS bowl based solely on their schedule which no one seemed to notice was missing the top 3 teams in the conference. And before you claim that the bowl game was a win - let me add the VT is not a quality BCS bowl opponent. VT sneaks into BCS games all the time with 3 or 4 losses = wtf? In my opinion VT is the most overrated team of the decade. Look up their records, you will be astonished at how much credit they get for mediocre seasons.
It's funny that both KU and Nebraska were both ranked (as high as 15 I think) this year. I guess the voters really wanted some Big12 North representation.
How Kansas wound up with that cheescake schedule in 2007 is beyond me. If I'm not mistaken, they get that schedule back in 2010 so they will probably go 10-2 and only feed this laughable notion that they are a good team.

Tech's offense is obviously struggling, but thanks to its defense it has managed to stay in most ballgames. Last week was a horrible exception.

Inexplicably, KU has no offense now. I can understand those who say that KU was overrated this year. However, to see the offense play this horribly when the defense looked stellar is just mortifying. Bad execution at every level on the offensive side of the ball. A 5-7 finish definitely looks possible (especially if Meier, Reesing, and Sharp have nagging injuries like last year).

neither team looked very good in this game. tech doesn't have much room to brag, especially after the debacle last week against a&m.
