WACO, Texas (AP)—Freshman Cody Green led Nebraska to points on its first three drives in his first college start as the Cornhuskers ended a two-game losing streak, beating Baylor 20-10 on Saturday.

Justin Blatchford returned a blocked punt for a touchdown, Dontrayevous Robinson added a rushing score and Jared Crick had a school record of five sacks to help Nebraska (5-3, 2-2 Big 12) beat Baylor (3-5, 0-4) for the 10th-straight time.

Green, a Texas high school star from a town about 200 miles southeast of Waco, was 12 of 21 for 128 yards passing to stake Nebraska to a 20-0 lead. The Huskers had scored a just 17 combined points in recent home losses to Texas Tech and Iowa State, and they matched a school record with eight turnovers against the latter.

Baylor lost its fourth in a row and hasn’t beaten Nebraska since 1956. Clifton Odom returned an interception for a touchdown in the third quarter to bring the Bears within 10.

Nebraska coach Bo Pelini promised personnel changes earlier this week after watching his offense sputter in consecutive lackluster performances. The biggest move came at quarterback, where junior Zac Lee had started the first seven games of the season.

Green got a hand from the Huskers’ special teams before he even took the field.

Eric Martin came up the middle and blocked Derek Epperson’s punt on the first series of the game. Blatchford scooped up the loose ball at 25 and dove into the end zone right in front of the red-clad Nebraska contingent.

Green and the Huskers offense received a hearty applause from Nebraska’s fans when they first took the field.

The 18-year-old from Dayton, Texas scrambled for 10 yards to earn a first down on third-and-5 during Nebraska’s opening offensive series, which ended in Alex Henery’s 45-yard field goal.

Green was 3 of 5 passing on his second drive, including a 22-yard toss to Kyler Reed that set up another Henery field goal.

Green dropped a perfect throw just over Niles Paul’s shoulder for 45 yards, giving the Huskers the ball at the Baylor 1. Robinson scored two plays later, extending Nebraska’s lead to 20-0 with 9:28 left in the first half.

Nebraska had 273 yards of offense, 30 fewer than what it averaged in conference play. The Huskers, though, capitalized on their opportunities, something they didn’t do when they turned the ball over four times inside the 5 last week.

The Huskers then went more than a quarter without a first down to help Baylor get back in the game.

Ben Parks kicked a 41-yard field goal to cap the Bears’ first possession after halftime, then Green made his biggest mistake of the game.

Odom stepped in front of Paul and intercepted Green’s pass, returning for a touchdown with 3:27 left in the third.

The Bears drove inside the Nebraska 20 twice in the fourth quarter but came away with no points. Parks missed a 24-yard field goal and turned the ball over on downs as Baylor failed to cut into Nebraska’s lead.

Nebraska’s defense constantly badgered quarterback Nick Florence, who started the season third on the depth chart before he was forced into action because of injuries.

Florence, 19 of 38 for 222 yards, was intercepted twice and sacked seven times. David Gettis caught seven passes for 124 yards.

sgillesp why wont you just go away. every week you get on the husker site to talk smack about how much better every other team is than nebraska. ksu is not that good. their loss to LL is the same as our loss to ISU. and they only beat ISU by 1 pt. as far as snyder, sure hes a decent coach and they are better off with him, but how many natl championships, or big 12 champ for that matter, did he bring home? the only person talkin about the huskers in the 90's is you. is ur "go sooners" comment suppose to offend us? ur an idiot. i got a question for you. of the following conferences with an undefeated team, who goes to the national championship? sec , big 12 , or big 10 ? answer: NOT the big 10. and you talk how good they are. another reason to quit smoking crack.

just keep telling yourself that whgiants and someday all your dreams may come true but only if you could flash back to the mid 90's. you act like nu has beat anyone. look what k st did to texas a&m yet a&m beat tech. K state did lose to la lafayette but that was early in the season and k st has the best coach in the big 12 north. Synder did it once and he will do it again with far less talent. Have a great day, go SOONERS!

Kansas State is not a good team. They lost to LA-Lafayette and they are only winning in the North because they have had no hard games. Look at their schedule they haven't beaten Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Nebraska, or Missouri. Their only wins were against 3 of the 4 worst teams in the conference. I know ISU beat Nebraska, but that game was a fluke and will never happen again

K State a lowly team? Interesting comment considering they are leading the Big 12 North. Scored 30 on Oklahoma and have great special teams. Lee Barfknecht ranks them 5th in the Big 12 and ranks NU 9th in the Omaha World Herald. And all you NU fans that continue to live in the past, it's time to move on. You say the Big 10 conference is weak but they have 4 teams in the top 25 compared to only 3 teams for the SEC and Big 12 which are all out of the South. NU may have 5 national championships but that was TO was coaching and they could recruit good players. It's time to live in the now and realize NU isn't the teams of the past and most likely won't ever be again as long as the Texas and Oklahoma schools are in the Big 12.

the only thing you are ranked in is child abuse that results in death. you are proudly ranked at #4 nationally. Maybe if you would get out of the cornfields and take care of your children instead of beating them every time the huskers lose you could stay out of the top 25 like you do in football

Oh just to add to my prior post ... The Defense had better step it up a bit as well. The whole cry has been about the offense this season. I know the defense is ranked in the top 25 .. but we need to be in the top 15 consistantly on the defense and bring back the true spirit of BLACKSHIRT football!!

Lets go Huskers ... We know you can do it!!!

All i can say is it looked good at the start but very VERY tough to watch in the second half. The Offense had better play a whole game and not just a half. It seems no matter who is in at Q.B. they can't seem to get theoffense going for more than a half. Maybe the coaches need to get more agressive and creative with their play calling. Hey maybe some trick plays once and a while ... Do something to keep the other teams on their heals for a bit and give the offense more of a chance.

I have been a Huskers fan as long as i can rememember. I used to listen to them on the am radio in my dads old 69 fury when i was 5 or 6. I have to be honest they had their ups and downs thruout the years ... but come on guys lets get something figured out. Were HUSKERS ... lets bring back some smashmouth football and put the other teams back on their buts where they beling!

No shutout for the Sooners at Lincoln. If lowly K- state can score 30 points on OU in Norman after being down 21 - 0 in the first quarter, surely the Huskers can score 2 or 3 TDs. I think the Sooneres will win, but it should be exciting.

Rick0755 is an idiot, every team pays D2 schools a bunch to come play. Why would a D2 school want to go on the road to play a better team. The only reason they go is for money. Go look at Florida's and Texas' schedule they did the same. You're a moron, go somewhere else

Ugly, but glad they are giving the young guy a shot. Green will hopefully turn out to be a good QB. Even though this has been tough to watch, it makes me very excited for the next couple years. Our defense is in the top 25 in the country right now statistically. They give up one or two big plays a game, which have been the deciding factor in a couple games obviously, but the offense has to accept much of the blame for that. I think the offense has the tools, but Offensive Coordinator, Watson, doesn't seem to have installed much into the offense other than screen passes and outside hand-offs. No wonder teams are holding us to so few points... they only have to play two thirds of the field; basically outside the hash marks. When is the last time we threw more than two passes between the hashes in a game? Get the offense straightened out and we have a good chance against OU, and breeze through KU, KST, and CU. Could be 9 or 10 win team at the end of the season. If they don't get offense corrected, we might not win again. Keep your head up Husker Nation!

huskers make me sick you talk @#$% when you win. next year look at the first 4 games of your schedule. haw the hell can you even show your faces. you pay western kentucky over a million dollars to come to lincoln for opening day just so you can say you won. they are 8 and 0 this year, yet you will say you are back once again when you beat them. how damn pathetic can you get?????

This is getting tough to watch..... Not just Nebraska either, the entire big 12 north is utterly pathetic this year (thankfully for NU). Will someone that still lives in Lincoln PLEASE drive Suh around next time he has a few beers? We lose that dude, we might as well start getting ready for next year.....

Gatorhater, did someone wearing a Nebraska shirt abuse you as a kid?........ or do the husker cheerleaders just beat you up on a regular basis?

Oklahoma might beat Nebraska, but Nebraska has a very good chance of winning the rest of their games. Apparently everybody is forgetting that Kansas State lost to LA-Lafayette....who Nebraska beat 55-0. And Kansas is not looking good either. Colorado might be the toughest out of those 3 games.

I'm not too worried about this game. Our offense had a true freshman QB and RB starting this game. I think Bo knew this would be the best place to start them to give them some confidence into on-coming games. Now do I think that we'll beat Oklahoma? Probably not. But, one can always hope...

hahaha, Kansas/KState fans are STILL in here talking smack???

Seriously, Nebraska has the number one defense in the big 12. I'd rather have that defense than no defense at all (Kansas) or no defense OR offense (Kansas State).

And Oklahoma has been pretty da** inept on offense themselves, and the game being in Lincoln... Nebraska may lose but there is no way Oklahoma 'blows them out', not with Landry at quarterback.

And everyone, please ignore "GatorHater", all he does is talk smack at Nebraska, it is pretty sad when someone has to create a user name simply to show how much they hate one team.

Nebraska has owned GatorHater's team for a LONG time obviously, to bring out that much hate hahaha.

Oklahoma is gonna knock the sh!it out of nebraska. I know it, the fans know it, the coaches know it, the players know it. Granted OU don't have the offense the did last year to run up 62 on the huskers- but wait-maybe they do?????? BTW plan on losing to KU, KSU. It would be nice if colorado kicks Nebraskas ass also, but I don't see it.

Nebraska could well end up 6 and 6. Bowl eligible but just barely. There have been several teams recently with 6 and 6 records that do not get bowl bids, so no guarantee. I think the Huskers will need to be 7 and 5 to guarantee themselves a bid.
