CLINTON, S.C. (AP)—Howard Abegesah rushed for three touchdowns to lead Virginia Military Academy in a 31-20 win over Presbyterian on Saturday.
Abegesah ran for 165 yards on 25 carries for the Keydets (2-5, 1-3 Big South Conference), and Kyle Hughes ran for 108 yards on 13 carries.
VMI took a 14-0 lead on 1-yard runs by Abegesah and Tim Maypray late in the opening quarter. After the Blue Hose (0-7, 0-2) pulled within seven on Myron Gary’s 27-yard touchdown pass to Parker Fleming on a fake field goal, Abegesah’s 37-yard score put VMI up 21-7 at halftime.
Abegesah’s final touchdown run, a 12-yarder, pushed the VMI lead to 28-7 late in the third.
In the fourth, Trandon Dendy rushed for a 2-yard touchdown for Presbyterian and Lance Byrd added a 1-yarder but it wasn’t enough for the Blue Hose.
Presbyterian has lost 10 straight games, while the win snapped a five-game losing skid for VMI.
