Dartmouth takes down Columbia 28-6

HANOVER, N.H. (AP)—Nick Schwieger ran for a school-record 244 yards and scored a touchdown, helping Dartmouth win its first game of the season 28-6 over Columbia on Saturday.

Schwieger set his new rushing record with 29 carries for the Big Green (1-5, 1-2 Ivy League), who snapped a 17-game losing streak. Connor Kempe was 8-for-22 with 75 yards passing with two touchdowns and an interception.

The Big Green jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to Kempe’s 24-yard touchdown pass to Niles Murphy and a 7-yarder to Michael Reilly. They pushed the lead to 21-0 to start the fourth when Charles Bay picked up a fumble and ran it back 39 yards for a score.

After M.A. Olawale scored from a yard out for Columbia (2-4, 1-2), Schwieger’s 66-yard touchdown run sealed the game.

Olawale passed for 89 yards and rushed for 82 more for Columbia.

    The Big Green drought is over. It was getting ugly, the Green had lost as many games in a row as my alma mater, Utah, had won in a row.
