OXFORD, Miss. (AP)—Dexter McCluster set career highs in rushing and receiving, and Jevan Snead threw for a career-high 332 yards to lead Mississippi to a 30-17 victory over Arkansas on Saturday.

Rebels coach Houston Nutt beat his former team for the second straight year.

Ole Miss (5-2, 2-2 Southeastern Conference) jumped ahead 17-0 and controlled the line of scrimmage throughout. The Rebels could have won by more if not for three turnovers.

Arkansas (3-4, 1-4) pulled to 24-17 in the third quarter when Carlton Salters caught a tipped pass for a 58-yard touchdown, but the Razorbacks couldn’t finish the rally and Ole Miss added two field goals in the fourth.

Nutt coached Arkansas for 10 seasons before leaving late in 2007. The Rebels immediately hired him.

McCluster plays a variety of roles for Ole Miss, but he hadn’t been much of a factor this season. That changed right away against Arkansas. He touched the ball on about half the Rebels’ first-quarter plays and had already run for a career-high 108 yards by halftime.

In the second half, he caught a screen pass, eluded the first line of defense and went 64 yards for a touchdown and a 24-10 lead. He finished with 123 yards rushing and 137 receiving.

Arkansas kept it close with a touchdown on a lucky bounce. Ryan Mallett threw deep for Greg Childs on third-and-long. Childs went up with two Ole Miss defenders, and the ball caromed right to Salters, who jogged the final few feet to the end zone.

That made the score look respectable, but the Rebels controlled this game. They made 31 first downs to Arkansas’ 13 and outgained the Razorbacks 553-299.

Snead opened the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run, then threw a 25-yard scoring pass to Shay Hodge near the end of the first quarter. The Rebels kept Arkansas off balance in the second. Snead lined up out wide in the Wild Rebel formation, and when Ole Miss ran a reverse to him, he threw deep to Markeith Summers for a 39-yard gain that set up a field goal.

Arkansas finally scored to make it 17-7 on Knile Davis’ 3-yard run with 2:15 left in the half.

Arkansas was coming off a 23-20 loss at Florida last weekend. The Razorbacks were upset about a few calls in that game, and the officials ended up being suspended by the league.

On the first play from scrimmage against Ole Miss, the Arkansas defense was called for a personal foul, and the day didn’t get much better after that. Running back Michael Smith returned after missing last weekend’s game with a bad hamstring, but he carried only six times for 35 yards. Mallett went 12 of 34 for 254 yards and was sacked four times.

Snead finished 22 of 33 with two interceptions. Arkansas has forced seven turnovers in the last two games and committed none, but the Razorbacks have two losses to show for it.

I believe we'll muster 3 wins, possibly 4, I want to be optimistic about L.S.U., but....., we've beat them 2 year in a row, we're going to their stadium, we got our work cut out!

Suck it up, beat the cupcake team at Homecoming this week. Mississippi State and Troy should be wins as well and that gives you six for the bowl. Get lucky and beat South Carolina and guarantee a bowl. You can put LSU in the loss column now.

Got to admire Houston Nutt though. I mean his team has beaten Arkansas two years in a row and left his critics who called for his head crying in their beer. He's got a winning program at Mississippi and Gus Malzahn over-rated offense can't win at Tulsa and now at Auburn.

And as for Gus's girlfriend Mitchie Mustain? He's doing a heck of a job helping with the Gatoraid bottles on the sidelines during USC games. Hope he and his mama found something to put in that empty spot in the trophy case where they thought the Heismann Trophy was supposed to have gone.

Mitchie can get his degree, come back to Arkansas, pick up a high school head coaching job and have all the local fans stroke his ego for him reminding him about the good ole days at
Springdale everytime they see him at Sam's Club or the local gracery store.

Houston Nutt might be savoring the wins, but he should be enjoying the last laugh more.

    Hey, from the real world,
You are a dumb ass. Before you start talking trash you need to look up how many wins ole miss has vs. arkansas. I believe arkie owns your ball club. As for the non conference cupcake the hogs have next week, so what. Are you trying to say ole miss doesnt have cup cakes. Get a clue and keep your dumd ass off these boards an let someone from ole miss with an IQ higher than a turnip respond next time.

My comment was a joke. It was a bad call, which had absolutely nothing to do with the outcome. We got our butts kicked

Doug, Ole Miss won the game, I never heard any Arkansas fans or players griping about the calls. I wish we would of won, but the truth of the matter is Ole Miss kicked our rearend big time. I'll say it again about the Florida game, if the shoe were reversed, and Florida had of lost a heartbreaker like we did with questionable calls, I'll let you answer it, would Florida have not said anything? It was a great game, we lost more so by not capitalizing then the calls, but enough is enough, we should of put Florida behind us and concentrated on Ole Miss. I'm not totally sure our young men did this, we dropped several passes that should of been caught, but hey, that's no excuse, Ole Miss ran right over us, primarily McCluster, we never really got consistent, your big defensive lineman were constantly in poor Ryan's face! You deserved the victory, but remember this, your coming to Fayetteville next year, we will pay you back!

THat was a terrible personal foul call on the first play from scrimmage against ARK. We would have won if not for that.

No John, he's not, Ole Miss beat us on both sides of the ball, our receivers did drop some key passes, but, we have nobody but ourselves to blame for that! I was a little disappointed in our defense not slowing McCluster down, that's still an issue. If your team plays really, really well, you'll be runner up in the S.E.C. West. You still have L.S.U. and your egg bowl against Mississippi State, not sure you'll beat the Tigers, fairly sure you'll beat the Bulldogs! As far as whining about the calls, don't kid yourself, if we would of beat Florida, and the Gators had those calls, don't think for a minute there wouldn't of been an uproar from GatorNation! Frankly, we missed several opportunities to put Florida away, the last missed field goal for one, the calls didn't help us, but the missed opportunities was the big difference. You got Houston Nutt, there will come a day, when your going to figure out what took us several years to get. You'll stay like we did, a middle class team playing middle class bowls. I know he got sick of Frank Broyles, for that I can't blame him for getting out. But at one time, we had two of the best running backs in the nation, Jones and McFadden, and finished 9-3, 8-4, and losing both bowl games! I have no animosity toward Coach Nutt, but am not convinced he's a great coach either!

OK Ole Miss fans-you had your game of the year-enjoy it-we may have had ours last weekend against Florida-we definitely walked in flat against you guys & I think it was pretty well expected(the down)by most people that watched us against the Gators-gee, you guys would literally wipe Florida off the field if you judge by the game against us yesterday--anyway, I do wish you good luck-hope you get back in the top 25-keep representing the SEC well!--from a Hog fan in Tucson AZ

Deep, deep down even though being both an Arkansas native and Hog fan, I had a very bad feeling about this game, my gut instinct was right! We got 5 games left, three against S.E.C. opponents, South Carolina, MIssissippi, State, and L.S.U., we certainly don't have it any easier. Troy can get in your face as well, I'm not sure what to expect from Eastern Michigan next week, all I know is we got to get with it to get a bowl game now. I think we'll end up 6-6. I want to believe 8-4, but not really seeeing it happen. As far as you Ole Miss fans and your team, I still like you except when you play Arkansas. I hope your team gets in the top 25 this week, you deserve it!I don't think you could of beat Alabama right now, but you should of beat South Carolina. By all rights, Ole Miss should be 5-1 right now. Course I still think we let Georgia get away, and I'm gonna refrain from speaking on the Florida game.

Right now, I hope we have 5 powderpuffs in a row, but that ain't happening! I was actually expecting the Ole Miss game to be tough, it was, I tip my hat to them on a job well done, they beat us on both sides of the ball. It wasn't all Ryan Mallett, our receivers dropped several balls that was right in their hands. Their back McCluster ran all over us, we just never did get in sinc or rythum, I give Ole Miss credit, they flat out outplayed us, no excuses! All I can say is, enjoy it, because next year, you come to our house, and we will get some payback!
