ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP)—Michigan had a record-breaking day in a 63-6 win over Delaware State on Saturday.

The Wolverines (5-2) set team marks with 442 yards in the first half and 727 total. They matched a school record with a 28-point first quarter and led 49-3 with their second-highest score by halftime.

The Hornets (1-4) didn’t come close to repeating Appalachian State’s upset in 2007 at the Big House, but the second-tier program got paid $550,000 to forfeit a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game to give Michigan a tuneup.

Quarterback Tate Forcier started, a week after having a concussion, and led the Wolverines to a TD on his only drive and left the game healthy.

Denard Robinson threw two touchdown passes on just four attempts and fumbled. Michigan also used its third-, fourth- and fifth-string quarterbacks.

Forcier played after being listed as questionable, but was only on the field for one drive. He completed both his passes for 39 yards.

Michigan didn’t ask any of its QBs to throw more than nine passes, choosing to hand the ball off early and often, perhaps to avoid making the score even more lopsided against the overmatched Football Championship Subdivision team.

The Wolverines rested their top two running backs—Carlos Brown because of a concussion and Brandon Minor who has an ankle injury—and some inexperienced players took advantage.

Vincent Smith ran for a career-high 166 yards and a touchdown. Michael Cox had 82 yards rushing and two scores. Michael Shaw ran for 73 yards and a TD.

Michigan had two brothers score in their highest-scoring game since scoring 63 points against Minnesota in 1992.

Kelvin Grady, who came to Michigan to play basketball, scored on a reception and Kevin Grady ran for a score.

Delaware State avoided a shutout in the final minute of the first half— thanks to Larrone Moore’s 51-yard kickoff return—on Riley Flickinger’s field goal. He kicked another field goal early in the fourth quarter to make it 49-6.

The Hornets sat starting QB Anthony Glaud, a week after he had a concussion in a loss to Bethune-Cookman, and started Nick Elko.

They gained just 14 yards on their first four drives, and it didn’t get much better after that.

Delaware State’s lucrative payday was costly in another sense because it chose to forfeit its previously scheduled conference game at North Carolina A&T.

Rick A just pwned your face Gator boys.....I said it's great to be a Florida Hater I said it's great to be a Florida Hater I said it's great to be a Florida Hater I like how they all say "were talking now, not what happened in the past." THAT'S BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO PAST!! Florida was not even on the college football map until like 1990. I must say Florida has the most obnoxious fans ever. I was at the 08 Capital One Bowl in Orlando and they were complaining about the refs because they were ACC. They were telling me Michigan was in a high school conference because we lost to App State. At the end of the game I told all the Florida fans around me "Look at the scoreboard! High school conference huh? We must be varsity then! See ya later jv." It was lovely.

The big A stands for Awesome! Just like the Wolverines! Why do you have to keep bringing more and more teams to the table? Because you can't win on Florida's achievements that's why! Here is another Michigan achievement Florida, Florida St., or Miami will never come close to achieving; Michigan is the ONLY team in NCAA history to be undefeated, untied, and not be scored upon in all games, including the post-season Rose Bowl appearance going 11-0 and outscoring their entire schedule 555-0. Michigan is 19-20 in bowl games but teams get out of sync sitting around for six or seven weeks waiting to play those games. They were not in a bowl game for 40 straight years because back in the old day's, the Big Ten did not allow any of its teams to go to a bowl game other than the Rose Bowl, which was reserved for its regular season champion. Michigan has experienced some speed bumps in bowls, but they never get embarrassed by anyone! How about the 1996 Fiesta Bowl when Nebraska ran the 12-0 Gators off the field to the tune of 62 points and out rushed them 524 to -24, now that is impressive! Again since the reality of the facts apparently were lost upon you, Michigan is 23-5-1 overall and 7-3 in bowl games against the SEC including 2 bowl victories in a row against the Gators, both in Florida! The Big Ten is also the only conference with a winning record against the SEC all-time 95-89-7. You also asked why the Wolverines are never on TV? Michigan is the most televised school in college football history (408 televised games), they were in ABC's national prime time game just two weeks ago! Florida has only 8 SEC titles in 77 years in the conference plus were stripped of another and denied two more for rule infractions. So who's the cheaters here? This is just too easy!! Michigan has 42 Big Ten titles. Since the inception of the AP poll Michigan has finished in the top 10 a record 37 times. Michigan has the highest all-time winning percentage in NCAA Division I-A football history. Michigan has the most all-time wins in NCAA Division I-A football. Michigan has the most winning seasons with 110. Michigan has the most undefeated seasons in Division 1-A football with 25. Michigan is also one of only three NCAA schools with a winning record against EVERY Division 1-A conference. Markie I can understand your frustration because you would need to live for another 100 years for Florida to come close to matching even half of Michigan's achievements! Then there is the biggest joke of all, the National Championships Florida has 3 to Michigan's 11! Let's check the final score here.....nope you still don't measure up, sorry you lose! Thank You! Come again!

We have more sunshine. we have miami-florida st-the gators usually ranked in the top 25 if not the top ten all at the same time. ricky a. and i can only guess what that big a stands for. we see the big ten as only a two team conference ok. it used to be osu and you. big woopie! you played 7 or 8 no bodies each yr to look good in the polls. lets bring up your overall bowl records hello!! tell us all about your total appearences in any bowl games and i,ll let you slide on the 1977 gator verse the mighty nc tar heels, or the wrangler put down verse ucla twice in one yr. or washington was that back to back to back. somewhere i remember oklahoma 20-0 yeah this is recall from those glory yrs of your schembeckler ball[ 3 runs and a punt or cloud of dust] which ever you like. ok alabama in 85 what thanks to mighty demetrious. your prision systems really get alot of help from michigan football programs. once i recall brunnell coming up short 38-30. then you went on a small roll with a couple in a row but lets look at the facts bowl boy i,ll wager your boys in blue don,t have a winning record in bowl games now this is only a big big guess. what are you 12 -29 or worse. do we need to bring up socal in the rose bowl you guys are a joke representing your conference there for yrs. i even lost 20.00 when that idiot dropped the ball at the four yard line and because your wolverines were so bad they awarded the socal team the td. lets see on those rare occassions when hail mary passes didn,t destroy your remaining season you did manage to come up with the lucky at home win against a couple of teams. remember colorado ooops! yes your michigan wolverines have a history an historic history a history of losing. i,d bet that less than 12 % percent of your mighty 715 victories came from ranked opponets. i just can,t go on being that disillussiontioned little wolverine boy watch ing bo lose to hayes every yr. the losses in the bowl games every year. then it was those lions against the vikings 19 times in a row. but don,t get me started. when michigan passed it made front page news. so you did beat the gators cudoo,s and twice. the games had some moments of entertainment in them. your boys climbed mount everest with a bowl win . the gators play teams as good as any michigan team every saturday and there second stringers are starters anywhere else. hummmm. i wonder why they chose to be a gator.? so blue boys please relish me with all the mighty bowl wins. yuk yuk yuk

Mark R., you need to practice what you preach! Since you suffer from memory loss, I'll remind you of your statement, "you wolverines always say just look at what we did back in -------against you know who. today people not yesterday." It is funny that you had search all the way back to 1991 to even find a score that was lopsided against Michigan, and it wasn't even an SEC school, FSU is in the ACC! Facts are facts, and the fact is that ALL of the historically top SEC schools have a losing record against the Big Ten. Bama 9-13, Florida 5-9, UGa 2-8, LSU 4-7-1, and Tennessee 5-10. As far as your speed statement goes, Michigan has had speed for quite a while. Again allow me to refresh your memory. The 2008 Capital One Bowl, Michigan's wide receivers ran wild for 373 yards against the super fast, but couldn't cover anyone, Florida secondary. There are even more Michigan players currently in the NFL than Florida players, 32 to 30, including three starting QB's!!!! Danny who? Good golly has it really came to that, that you had pull a Danny Wuerffel out of your behind? Big deal, Brian Griese won a National Championship too, and he wasn't that good- but his numbers in the NFL crush Wuerffel's! Total yards 19440 to 2123, TD's 119-12, a Pro Bowl, and a Super Bowl win- Griese wins! Don't even get me started on Tom Brady! Since the inception of the poll system (74 years) Michigan has been ranked 89% of the time to Florida's 69%. Just so you know that is an entire decade longer of being ranked. You keep crying about a head to head match up, but you don't want that because Florida has NEVER beat Michigan, probably never will! Chant with me....UN-DE-FEAT-ED! UN-DE-FEAT-ED! I feel it is time for you to face the facts, there is no angle you can take that will make Florida better, sorry. Game over!

Dan G. your obviously just as smart as the rest of the morons on here. If you read a few posts back, there are several people who are trashing Michigan and hyping up Florida. Why, because they have feel validated or were ignored as children. No one said squat about Florida or the SEC, but these morons feel the need to put Michigan down for fun, so I commented on their ignorant comments. You would think that the Florida fans would stick to an article about Florida instead of commenting on other teams. So read a few comments before you speak up next time you putz!

Mark R. you make no sense and have no legs to stand on in your argument. Who does Michigan dare to play out of conference right now, a better question for you is why isn't the all mighty world beating gay-tors playing the top 3 teams outside of the SEC. Answer, because they wouldn't be undefeated! Florida's out of conference schedule is equal to Michigan's this season, Charleston Southern, Troy, and Florida International what a joke! Florida State is probably equal to Notre Dame, so that game is wash. The schedules are equal! Michigan is 23-5-1 overall and 7-3 in bowl games against the SEC including 2 bowl victories in a row against the Gators, both in Florida! The Big Ten is also the only conference with a winning record against the SEC all-time 95-89-7, it must hurt to be the bridesmaid and not the bride! So keep talking trash, you'll lose every time!

Also check out the record of Michigan vs SEC in bowl games. They have beat Auburn, Arkansas, Alabama and Florida in bowl games IN THE SOUTH in the last ten years! Just because Ohio State gets owned by SEC teams doesn't mean The Wolverines do to. Check your facts SEC fans. This post is great "hell the worst team in the sec would be there in the forth quarter against your blue boys why! because we know how to win and play a full 4 quarters of bringing it football. vandy could rip your boys apart on any given saturday" Actually Mr. Mark R (you spelled fourth wrong) check this out Sat September 2nd 2006 Michigan 27 Vanderbilt 7. Oh yeah and your mighty Gators only beat them by 6 that year. :) Check your facts before you spit all that nonsense out of your mouth next time. Have a great day GO BLUE

LOL I love the person that posted down below "Blah blah blah come play Florida in Gainesville, put Florida on the schedule blah blah blah. Hey NIMROD WE DID!!! It was the 2008 Capital One Bowl in Orlando. Our same team that lost to App State beat Tebow and the Gators in their own state on January 1st. The only reason the score was even as close as 41-35 is because Mike Hart felt sorry for them and doubled his career total for fumbles inside the 20 yard line. Florida Florida Florida bah they barely beat So Carolina and Vandy in 06 when they cried their way to the title game behind Urban Cryer! Oh yeah and btw that was the second time Michigan beat Florida IN FLORIDA since 02. Michigan has 2 wins Florida has 0 in head to head games. DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE YOU TALK SMACK! Have a great day!

CMU04BSBA & Rick A. I agree with your comments. I just want to add that I agree with RR's assessment. The players Michigan has standing on the sidelines every week got a chance to play. They enjoyed getting out there. The fact that these guys were able to get on the field and share some playing time, not to mention the starters along the sideline urging them on and supporting them in a TEAM effort, was quite a joy to watch. I loved every smile on their faces, just because they got to play and their families and friends had the opportunity to see them out there. Gumpy, I know. But they had a good day Saturday, and I am happy for them.

Also, our starters who have had some injuries get an extra week to heal and rest. They needed that time. We still have some tough teams left to play and having healthy starters is essential at this point in the season!

theonlybeldin, no one is preaching about Michigan being No. 1 because they beat Delaware State, in fact there is no one saying anything but they won. I do find it entertaining that you feel that the Southern and Missouri Valley Conferences are respectable, though Appi St. and N. Iowa are good teams. I will grant you that the opponents mentioned are bottom rung Div. 1, but on the ladder. Michigan is building for the future, they are not there yet. Michigan is a good not great team, but should return to the next level within the next couple of years. It doesn't pay anything to have a great out of conference schedule, as proven back in '97. Michigan played three common opponents of Nebraska, whipping them all, and still had to share the title with a team that needed five downs to be a poor Mizzou team and a last second catch to beat a Colorado team that Michigan blew out. The voters hate the Big Ten and always will. Penn St. got screwed in '94 for not running up the score on Indiana, and lost the national title again to Nebraska, who would of been hammered if they played Penn St. So I say play as many cupcakes as you can, everyone else is. The strength of schedule means nothing if you are not undefeated in December. The Big Ten and the Wolverines, will back on top soon and then they will smash all comers right in the face!!!!

Delaware State forfeited a game just to play Michigan for the $500,000 check to keep their football program going. Not uncommon for teams to play cupcakes anymore now that 12 games are required to schedule. Michigan does not have a bye week all season so this is really the only other alternative you have when you are in that kind of predictament. It's essential to keep the team healthy.

Should be a good game next week versus Penn State. I'm interested to see if Michigan can continue its dominance at home this season. So far they are 5-0. Definitely better at home than on the road.

mdaniel1010...You said most of what needs to be said!! I agree with you. Let's clarify one more thing though. I sense FEAR in all of these insults! How long did everybody think Michigan would be down? Yes, Iowa beat us...by 2 points (a game we should have won). Yes, Sparty beat us...by 4 points (a game we should have won). Basically, we beat ourselves in those 2 games. We ARE on the right track, and I am REALLY looking forward to next year!!!

TP is taking a beating from his "fans" down here in Columbus (4 fumbles and 2 picks...and yelling at his own OL because he didn't tackle the dude that picked off his pass probably didn't help his "protection" from his line...several nice sacks for Purdue!). Too bad he chose not to come to Michigan. We could have made a real QB out of him. Instead, he chose to come to Columbus because they cater to his great big ego here. I am personally very happy he didn't go to Michigan. Sucks to be Tressel and TP right now.

Aside from feeling bad for Delaware St. (but we could have run up the score even more, at will), I also feel sorry for ohowihate's team, with all of its fairweather fans here!

All of these people jumping on Michigan...worry about your own teams and check out the little school's they have all beaten up on, AND run the scores up on! Bite me.

    GO BLUE!

First of all, what are all of these Wolveine haters doing on this blog? Yeah Delaware St. was a cupcake, and no one expected them to win, come on. Michigan had its first loosing season in how long last year? Its a rebuilding season and id have to say that it was a good choice to play a team like that. It gives all of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th guys off the bench to show what they can do in game situations. I think people are staring to realize that Michigan has been, and always will be one of the most dominating schools in college football, and one bad year is nothing (how anyone did not know that already is a mystery to me). Yeah, they played a cupcake team, and won, but remember that Delaware St. is a college team too. Some of the guys that played For Michigan had not played a snap all season. Even though its a bigger school, not all of their players are that much better. Oh yeah, and I cant wait until the next time Florida comes to the BIG HOUSE!

    Go Blue!

Having a Delaware St. on your schedule is better than a bye week. They have no chance of winning the game and you name the score. Getting game experience for the second and third stringers. Sure, big payday for little Delaware st. but Rich Rod does not care about that. If you want the big money, why not play a USC, Texas, etc. yes, the TV CONTRACTS! I do not buy into the Michigan played this game for money. They played it for the easy win. Deleware St. is not a cupcake, they are one of the worse subdivision teams you can find.

Wow, looks like all of the Michigan fans have their panties in a bunch for getting criticized for playing a MEAC team. MEAC, boys and girls, is one of the two HBC conferences in I-AA that are nowhere near the quality of conferences like the Southern, Big Sky, Atlantic Ten or Missouri Valley. Except for Charleston Southern, every other opponent of a top team mentioned by a Michigan fan is a I-A school (North Texas, Troy, UTEP are all I-A schools). Someone mentioning Houston is laughable, considering the Cougars are 5-1 with wins over Oklahoma State and Texas Tech (their only loss being UTEP), showing once again that the IQ of your average Michigan fan about anything not involving their team was exceeded by the number of points Delaware State put up yesterday.

Face it, Wolverweenies, you beat up the geeky kid. And not even the geeky kid at your own school - you went to the local junior high and beat up their geeky kid. You whine about no one wanting to come to the Big (Out)House and play; if you're on the "road to recovery" go on the road and show it. Travel to play a Missouri, or a Clemson, or an Auburn. What, afraid that you're going to get your asses kicked like your trip to Oregon a few years back?

Don't worry - just like the Cubs, next year is just around the corner.
