No. 16 Cowboys top Mizzou 33-17 without Bryant

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP)—Mike Gundy walked up to defensive coordinator Bill Young, who already had his tie loosened up, and delivered a message.

“You made me nervous,” Gundy said.

All Young could do was chuckle.

Hubert Anyiam filled in for ineligible All-American Dez Bryant with 10 catches, a career-high 119 yards and the go-ahead touchdown, and No. 16 Oklahoma State shut out Missouri in the second half in a 33-17 victory Saturday night.

Dan Bailey hit two field goals, including a career-long 51-yarder, for the only points after halftime but it was enough for the Cowboys (5-1, 2-0 Big 12) as they limited Missouri (4-2, 0-2) to 80 yards in the second half after giving up 313 in a first half that was all about offense.

“The players just got into the groove of the game and started playing,” Young said.

Zac Robinson threw for 227 yards, and Lucien Antoine added an interception return for a touchdown to help the Cowboys snap a four-game losing streak on their home field against the Tigers.

Missouri’s pass-heavy offense fell flat after that prolific first half, and even a 60-yard punt return on a reverse couldn’t spark a comeback. The Tigers were shut out in a half for the first time since a 13-3 loss to Kansas on Oct. 29, 2005, when they also went scoreless in the second half.

“The first half, they was killing us. We were basically beating ourselves by missing so many tackles,” cornerback Perrish Cox said. “That was our main focus and one of our main adjustments that we went in for at halftime.”

Oklahoma State started Big 12 play with back-to-back wins despite being without Bryant and top running back Kendall Hunter, who missed his fourth straight game because of a sprained ankle.

Anyiam had only nine career catches coming into the game, but had a breakout performance as Bryant watched from the sideline in a black hooded sweatshirt. Anyiam had eight catches in the first half, including the go-ahead score with 2 seconds left when he darted in front of Kevin Rutland to catch Robinson’s 8-yard pass and make it 24-17.

“Hubert can be that person every game,” Cox said. “We face him at practice every day. He’s fast, quick. As long as he can get the ball in his hands, he can make big plays.”

Oklahoma State has won three straight games without Bryant, who has applied for reinstatement after he lied to the NCAA about a meeting with former NFL player Deion Sanders during the offseason.

“With Dez Bryant down, that kind of hurt us a lot,” Cox said. “We can’t wait for him to get back. Hubert backed him up, and I think he’s a pretty good backup.”

OSU never looked back.

Blaine Gabbert threw for 325 yards on 22 for 44 passing but also had a career-high three interceptions for Missouri. Danario Alexander caught nine passes for a career-high 180 yards but had only 19 yards after halftime.

After going without an interception in the first four starts of his career, Gabbert has five in the last five quarters. He led receiver Jerrell Jackson too far and the ball clipped off of his hands before safety Lucien Antoine plucked it out of the air and raced 26 yards up the OSU sideline for a touchdown that put Oklahoma State up 17-14 in the second quarter.

“Four turnovers to zero,” Missouri coach Gary Pinkel said. “You’re not going to win very many games there.”

Gabbert threw an interception to end Missouri’s first drive of the second half, and the Tigers only managed one first down and 17 yards in the third quarter. Mizzou’s drives in the fourth quarter stalled at the 21 and 10 on fourth-down stops by OSU.

“I told the team it’s been a long time in watching and being involved in Oklahoma State football as a coach and a player that we had that many crucial stops in big situations,” Gundy said. “We were really proud of our defense.”

With OU out of the way,The Horns got Okie St to deal with after we beat them,That would make Oklahoma State champions as well as Big 12 South champs.

Mike - recal your history young man. Nebraska will be owning the little Okie State crew soon enough and then the Sooners will be clowns without Bradford so the North will always prevail.

Texas will not be much after McCoy either. " Hey buddy do you watch much Big 12 football? First off OSU beat Nebraska the last two times they have played including a 45-17 win in Lincoln and OU destroyed them last year in Norman. Secondly when was the last time a North team won the conference title game? It was K-state over OU in 2003 and other than that it has been OU the last 3 years or Texas the year before that. The North owns nobody in the big 12 in football maybe KU in basketball but not in football. If you are a Husker fan you better hope they beat OU because if not you guys will head to either the Insight Bowl or Independence because I see Kansas representing the North in the title game against either OSU or Texas.

OSU had some poor tackling in the first half or Mizzou would have been lucky to score at all. Sad Mizzou fans want to blame a 3 score loss on a few calls by the refs.

NU needs to start beating also-rans in the south like TT before they can start thinking about dominating anything. I love NU, one of my favorite Big 12 schools outside of OSU, but they have some work left to do.

Hauged Up please do us all a favor and come back after you've sobered up and try again. WTF kind of comment is,"FCUK Ok St refs." Last time i checked it was a big 12 crew, not just a bunch of guys picked up off the street in stillwater.

then you end your totally brilliant rant with trashing pinkle for throwing on 3rd and short.

What was it, bad officials or the fact that you don't agree with pinkle's calls?

osu played without it's two biggest offensive starters, bryant and hunter, they scored field goals instead of touch downs. had they put up 7 points all night instead of 3's the score would have been even more lopsided.

instead of being upset about the calls you really need to be worried @ next weeks game against texas. been reported it's gonna be the prime time game of the week. it could be embarrassing.

"I am NOT someone to call out the refs for a blown game but that holding call when simmos ran for 84 yards on the kick off and the TERRIBLE missed fumble call (mizzou should have been down) just blew the game. Its a whole new ball game with those two plays. FCUK Ok St refs. What BS calls. Mizzou should have won this game. What was Pinkle thinking throwing on 3rd and short???"

wow 4 terrible calls by the officials:

    1) OSU first drive was extended by a generous mark as the announcers put it.

    2) The holding call on the big return

    3) The fumble that was called when he was clearly down

    4) The fumble that WASNT called near the end of the game"
Hey FANTASY_GURU you get those calls back and then lose only by 7 points at the most and what was your exuse last year when Mizzou was undefeated and had all their best players yet lost at home to OSU? 28-23 in 2008 and now 33-17 in 2009 you guys have a few years off from playing OSU have fun playing Texas or TexTech!

A couple of questionable calls and some guy's on here saying Mizzou got hosed? Ask Arkansas about cals actually affecting the outcome of a game. This game was simply one team being better (and even without their top 2 players)!
Can the Big 12 South drop the North and pick up the Mountain West or the WAC? Would really hyelp strength of schedule!

Farewell to Pinkel, the man can't coach, the injured QB killed any hope for tiger victory, he should of had a replacement in after the miserable 1st quarter performance. Plus no running game what so ever. Sucessful teams run between the tackles going north/south direction

Hauged Up - Little dose of reality; you lost by three scores. Those 2 calls, even if you assume you scored on both, did not make the difference.

You lost. You should have lost.
