MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP)—Daniel Thomas ran for four touchdowns in the first half and Brandon Banks returned the second-half kickoff 97 yards for another score, leading Kansas State to an improbable 62-14 rout over Texas A&M Saturday night.

A week after allowing 66 points and more than 700 yards in a disheartening loss to Texas Tech, Kansas State (4-3, 2-1 Big 12) steamrolled Texas A&M on both sides of the ball for its most lopsided conference win since beating Iowa State 58-7 in 2002.

The Wildcats led 38-0 at halftime after Thomas scored on runs of 7, 3, 9 and 17 yards, then scored 21 points over the first 5:12 of the third quarter before Texas A&M (3-3, 0-2) finally started to put points on the board.

Keithen Valentine ran for a pair of touchdowns in the second half and Grant Gregory was steady after being replaced by Carson Coffman last week, throwing for 147 yards and a touchdown on 10-of-13 passing.

Embarrassed by Texas Tech, Kansas State’s defense took it out on Texas A&M, forcing five turnovers while holding the Aggies to 70 first-half yards and minus-13 yards rushing overall.

The Wildcats also harassed Jerrod Johnson, the Big 12’s total offense leader, with six sacks and three interceptions, ending his Big 12 record at 242 pass attempts without throwing a pick. He finished with 314 yards passing and threw two touchdowns to Uzoma Nwachukwu—both after Kansas State had built a 59-0 lead.

The defensive dominance gave the Wildcats a short field most of the game and they took advantage, scoring on six of seven drives for their most points in a half since scoring 50 against New Mexico State in 2001.

Kansas State kept the pressure up from there, with Banks getting his school-record third kickoff return for a TD this season and Valentine scoring on runs of 9 and 20 yards to put away any thought of a comeback.

Texas A&M was in trouble from the start.

Running back Jamie McCoy fumbled on Aggies’ second play from scrimmage and Kansas State’s Troy Butler recovered at the Aggies’ 29. Thomas scored four plays later on a 7-yard run up the middle.

Texas A&M’s next two drives ended in punts and good field position for Kansas State. Josh Cherry put the Wildcats up 10-0 with a 23-yard field goal, then Thomas—after a 24-yard punt return by Banks and a face-mask penalty— went around right end for an easy 3-yard touchdown run when the Aggies blew outside containment on an option.

Nearly a touchdown underdog at home, Kansas State led 17-0 after the first quarter.

And the Wildcats weren’t done. Far from it.

Tysyn Hartman ended Johnson’s single-season conference record of no interceptions at 225 passes with a pick in the second quarter, setting up Thomas’ fourth TD of the half.

Trying to run out the clock in the closing seconds, Johnson and Christine Michael had a bad exchange on a handoff and Kansas recovered the fumble. Gregory hit Collin Klein on a 16-yard touchdown pass on the next play to give the Wildcats more points in the first half than they had scored in five of six games this season.

I thought when Oklahoma beat Teaxs A&M to Oklahoma 77-0 in 2003,was the worst defeat they ever had,but this one,wow ,this one was the most upsetting lost of all

With all due respect to K-State, it is sad and pathetic that A&M got blown out 62-14. With its program history, resources, facilities and booster support there's just no reason why the Aggies shouldn't be competitive with the Big 12's Tier 1 teams on a regular basis. The "Longhorn" in me cheers with glee, while the other part of my brain can only shake my head and wonder..."why?"

Please don't fire Mike Sherman until I've had one last chance to see him forced to rid himself that smug countenance as the Red Raiders blister the Aggies by six touchdown.

As a Wildcat fan I am ashamed of myself for doubting Bill Snyder before the game. I said if we were down by 28 points at half time then at least we could leave early and beat the crowd.
No one expected this kind of rout. I almost felt sorry for A&M... almost. After last week it was deffinitely redemption time, especially on defense. Well done Cats. Now get ready for the Buffs, who also pulled off a tremendous upset over KU yesterday. Big 12 North just got interesting again! =)
And there is no doubt that the Aggies will be strong again one day. You can't keep that much tradition of excellence down for long. We'll enjoy this win while we can. The next meeting will be far more competitive.

    C-Money,

I know a thing about Aggie football. A good bit of what you said about R.C. Slocum is wrong. I agree that he was not an offensive genious, and his record in bowl games was not great. However, the school NEVER had a losing season under him, and he played by the rules. The current football program at A&M is not capable of competing for a Big-12 title. No way.

This is pure B.S. It is ridiculous of you to assert that R.C. Slocum is responsible for the lack of talent over the past 10+ years. You are not going to make a scapegoat of the best head football coach A&M has had since Jackie Sherrill. Slocum was a man of integrity whose athletes competed and won every season. The school forced him out becasue they thought A&M should be competing for national titles. Coach Fran and Coach Sherman have since taken the program in the wrong direction.

lol as a baylor fan, it is nice to see this happen. I like the aggie students, but like to see them lose every time they step onto the field. It is just nice to have someone at the bottom with us. And you aggie fans can get all kinds of defensive if you want and say how you aren't at the bottom, or at least you will beat baylor, and quite frankly I don't care. We may lose every game that we play for the rest of the season, but it will be refreshing to see A&M do the same.

I had simple goals coming into the season....I wanted to see improvement on both sides of the ball. I saw a few things in the games against Ark and OkSt, but a lot of deficiencies as well. This game against K-state was absolutely ridiculous! In NO way should coaches or players allow themselves to be man-handled like they did. I'd like to see someone on the A&M side of the ball get mad about what's happening to them when the score is 59-0 in the 3rd quarter.....Nope, didn't see it. THAT's what's EMBARRASING!

One myth that most Aggie fans have that I must dispell is that RC Slocum was a guy who we should never have parted ways with. RC was a great defensive coach, but was not a good head coach and had absolutely NO idea how to coach offense or call plays. He is as responsible as anyone in the lack of talent that A&M has had over the past 10+ years. A&M has basically produced a handful of good defensive lineman over the past 15 or so years, that's it.....no QBs, no WRs, and absolutely no RBs. Through the mid to late 90's as offensive imagination was flourishing at other schools, it was dying at A&M and good offensive players avoided A&M and ended-up at other schools. Year after year this erosion continued and is the foundation of what we have today. No offense = no scoring = not enough wins = high school kids looking other places to play (on offensive and defense). The result was A&M's program slipping year by year and being much further behind than most would believe. It's not going to come back in one year like a lot of posters believe, but 62-14 against a bad K-state team is CRAZY. Shouldn't happen no matter who is coaching the team. Hate to say it, but something has to change.....and it might just need to be the coach. SAD!

One should avoid A&M at all cost. The way the alumni and the adiminstration did RC was wrong and not founded. RC was a winner, a top recruiter, played by the rules and was well liked and respected by the Texas highschool coach's. Karma is a beotch and A&M is not even relevant in college football anymore.

Kevin Sumlin is a great young coach and was assistant head coach for aggie......too bad the program is covered in red ink and a 10 million dollar loan from the school doesn't count as a profit.

I take nothing away from K-State and Coach Snyder, they do deserve a lot of credit. Concerning another comment about Aggie fans worrying about Texas, I could care less. If we lose every game and beat Texas, who cares? Not me. I want to see us at least get back to the time we were respectable and had talent. I agree with Reggie, we have not seen much talent in a while and when we do get talent, we don't use it right. No matter what, I remain an Aggie for life. Whether or not the football team ever has another winning season is not going to change the world. I am sure we still won halftime and know we have the best fans in the world.

reggie (who looks like Mr. Kotter),

We KNOW that A&M lacks talent, but the talent at K-State is not wholly superior. I believe A&M was the Vegas odds favorite in this game. This effort reflects something more than a lack of talent. It reflects a team that was poorly prepared, motivated, and coached. For the record, I thought Mike Sherman was a poor choice for the program. An older guy who failed at the NFL level as a head coach is a questionable choice. I don't remember the school giving much consideration to other coaches. Why not hire a young energetic fellow who has done well at the college level. Florida went out and hired a young Urban Meyer from a smaller program. Worked out pretty well. I would like to think A&M has the resources to get a good coach from another school.

Let's hope Texas Tech doesn't run up the score on A&M next week. It could be a rout.

A lot of agonizing on here about A & M. How about a little credit for K-State? They were absolutely thumped a week ago and had every reason to not show up for this game against A & M. Not only did Coach Snyder get them to show up, but they probably played their most complete game in 5 or 6 years.

Kudos to Coach Snyder and the K-State players. This season may be salvaged yet.

why can't you aggie fans accept that you just don't have the talent anymore. when rc was there he put more players in the nfl except notre dame. it may have not been flash players, but the talent was there. until you get back to that level, and quit wondering what ut is doing, you are never going to win. but then again you are a school with a losing bowl record, and a losing record against ranked teams. you are a school with a 500 win percentage, not 800, like so many of you believe.

I have been an Aggie fan all my life and graduated from there. I love the school. My life is really not affected by whether or not a group of 18 - 19 year olds wins a game, but of course, I still want them to win. This is the most embarrasing loss since losing to Oklahoma by 60+ points. When A&M replaced R.C. Slocum, a coach the fans and players loved, I knew we were in trouble. I hope that they will see the error of their ways, find a good young up and coming coach, Brent Venables comes to mind, and start to re-build. No more old coaches that cannot relate to the young guys they will coach. Please A&M, go find someone with fire and youth.

They will tank all year then either win against Texas or keep it close, then the Sherm will get an extension. I've never seen a school play one game (against Texas) and that game mean their whole season.

Sherman is Fran II. Like most horror story sequells is ten times worse.

    Pathetic play calling

    Lousy coaching

A defense that looks uninspired and cannopt tackle - again it leads to coaching.

    Cut Fran II loose now!

Seems as if the players(Texas A&M). could get the job done but coaching is not allowing them to use the tools they have -Well it is a shame for this years players but they should do the best they can on the remainder of the schedule!!

Amazing. Of course, Sherman routinely got embarrased by at least one opponent, no matter where he coached.

This is just flat out abysmal though. I feel sorry for A&M fans. It won't matter if Sherman somehow pulls an upset of UT this year.

When I heard Mike Sherman speak at the Austin Aggie Club, I shook my head and predicted he would fail at Texas A&M. The man has a motor mouth, never stops chattering, and the players soon stop listening. One player told him, "Coach, you're talkin' faster than I can listen." I love A&M, its traditions, its contributions to America, but for the life of me I cannot understand how time and again they make the same mistake when it comes to hiring a head football coach. Sherman, a nice guy, will have to go, and the process of rebuilding will have to start all over again. Might as do it sooner than later.
