Missouri State defeats Youngstown State 17-7

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP)—Cody Kirby threw for 252 yards and a touchdown to lead Missouri State to a 17-7 victory over Youngstown State on Saturday.

Kirby was 19-for-28 and threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to Clay Harbor as the Bears (3-2, 1-1 Missouri Valley Conference) stopped Youngstown State’s three-game winning streak.

Kirby’s pass to Harbor gave Missouri State a 7-0 lead with 13:34 left in the first, and the Bears increased it to 10-0 on Matt Hottelman’s 20-yard field goal with 6:57 to play in the first quarter.

Youngstown State (3-2, 1-1) cut the lead to 10-7 with 3:34 left in the second quarter on Brandon Summers’ 32-yard pass to Donald Jones, who caught 11 passes for 130 yards.

Jonathan Davis added Missouri State’s final score on a 4-yard run with 11:19 remaining in the third quarter.

Summers was 23-for-39 for 251 yards, but threw three interceptions. The Penguins also lost a fumble.
