Late scores lift Elon over Furman 19-12

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP)—Elon scored twice in the final 2 seconds and Terrell Hudgins set the NCAA Division I mark for career receptions in a 19-12 victory over Furman on Saturday.

Furman led 12-10 until Adam Shreiner’s 37-yard field goal gave Elon (4-1, 2-0 Southern Conference) a 13-12 lead with 2 seconds left. Shreiner’s kickoff was fumbled in the end zone and Elon’s Travis Greene recovered it for a touchdown for the final score.

Hudgins tied his career high with 16 catches and set a NCAA career mark for career receptions with 331.

He passed Florida A&M’s Jacquay Nunnally, who held the Football Championship Subdivision record with 317 catches from 1997-2000, and Purdue’s Taylor Stubblefield, who held the Football Bowl Subdivision mark with 316 catches from 2001-2004.

Hudgins finished with 209 yards receiving and a 1-yard touchdown reception.

Elon’s Scott Riddle was 35-for-48 for 374 yards and his scoring pass to Hudgins for a 10-6 lead with 4:03 remaining in the game.

Furman (3-2, 2-1) took a 12-10 lead on Tersoo Uhaa’s 1-yard run with 1:56 left to cap a seven-play, 73-yard drive.

Jerry Williams led Furman with 60 yards rushing and Jordan Sorrells was 21-for-41 for 219 yards. Adam Mims had nine catches for 82 yards.
