Tennessee Tech beats Austin Peay 31-23

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP)—Lee Sweeney threw three touchdown passes to lead Tennessee Tech to a 31-23 victory over Austin Peay on Saturday night.

Sweeney was 21-for-29 for 234 yards, connecting with Antonio Robinson nine times for 130 yards and two scores.

Robinson caught a 22-yard touchdown catch to give the Golden Eagles (2-2, 1-1 Ohio Valley Conference) a 24-17 advantage with 1:56 left in the third quarter, but Austin Peay’s Terrence Holt scored on a 10-yard run to cut the lead to 24-23 with 6:29 remaining in the fourth quarter. The extra point attempt was blocked.

Sweeney added to Tennessee Tech’s final score on a 46-yard touchdown pass to Tim Benford with 5:34 left in the game.

Ryan White rushed for 100 yards on 22 carries for Austin Peay (1-4, 0-2). Holt added 71 yards and two scores on the ground.

Austin Peay’s Gary Orr was 15-for-23 for 198 yards.
