SEC says Georgia got raw deal on celebration call

ATLANTA (AP)—The Southeastern Conference says Georgia should not have been penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct after its go-ahead touchdown against No. 4 LSU.

Rogers Redding, the SEC’s coordinator of officials, said a video review of the play from a different angle than the official had showed receiver A.J. Green didn’t do anything improper after making a brilliant catch on a 16-yard touchdown.

The score game Georgia a 13-12 lead with 1:09 remaining, but the Bulldogs had to kick off from their own 15 after the 15-yard penalty. The Tigers returned it to the Georgia 43; two plays later, Charles Scott broke off a 33-yard touchdown run that gave LSU a 20-13 victory.

LSU could have won numerous games if it had not been for bad calls against them.....My husband and I have watched them since 1996 and its a shame when there is so many bad calls against LSU......Its the same with the Saints.....Somebody hates to see these teams win a game!

Been a Tiger fan all my life. Love em, win or lose. Call it luck or call it what it is, PLAY 60 MINUTES AND DON'T GIVE UP. I have always respected the Bulldogs and simple fact is we haven't had the greatest sucess against them over the years. This LSU team is still not in sinc. Their raw talent and desire to win is what is saving them but, mark my words, they will come together somewhere during the season. Hopefully it will be Saturday night. And to the poster about the magic in Tiger Stadium, I believe there is magic within the confines of the grand old stadium. If you can believe, it can happen. LSU 31 Florida 28 in a fearce, very hard hitting war. We will get to Tebow and we will run on the Gators AGAIN. Remember that Gator fans. You guys are great but you are not invincible.

I am a LSU Alumni but I was born in Georgia so I respect both teams so lets cut through all the BS and stick to the facts.

    1. For those who blame Cox for his poor first half and costing them the game then you are true idiots as per logic 2.

    2. LSU should have scored far more then the 6 points they got in the first half. INT in the End Zone on LSU's first drive. Poor decision by a young QB. LSU also should have taken a Field Goal instead of trying for the first AND they should have tried to put some points on the board instead of letting the first half expire.

    3. I don't give a rats arse if the SEC says it was a bad call against Georgia. The fact is the refs called the same bad penalty against LSU.

    4. I agree with bleek about Curran. Do NOT blame him. His arse was flying all over the field and frankly if it were not for him...LSU would have BLOWN OUT UGA. Curran stopped many big plays early. Just his presence was enough to make JJ think twice and take shorter yardage.

    5. Someone needs to learn how to do their math. *coughs out The Annoying Little Dude* Had UGA of won they would have improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in SEC games instead of 2-1. So where in the world do you get 2-2 from ? They are 3-2.

Finally 6. Both teams allowed big plays and missed big tackles. You can not do that against any team. LSU finds a way to gut it out and win. That is the mark of a champion. UGA can still come back and bite everyone in the arse but it will be tough. So everyone that is...Quiet your damn whining and complaining. UGA lost the game. Worry about getting a win in your next game and for UGA's sake you should hope that LSU also defeats Florida so you'll be tired for the SEC East Lead. Improves your odds greatly.

First off, I am a GA fan. But as a football fan how can you say the celebration penalty cost them the game. Trindon Holiday had a great return, that was taken back 15 yrds because of a block that did not affect the return. Then LSU scored on two plays, if the kickoff would have been at the regular line of schrimage Charles Scotts run would have just been 15 yards longer. Also there was a missed tackle at the line, & if Scott would have been caught given an extra 15 yards a chip shot field goal would have won the game for LSU, and that's only if they wouldn't have been able to punch it in with a full minute remainig. On top of all that LSU got the same penalty that UGA got on their own touchdown, which put them in the same situation. Just over a minute left with two timeouts, plenty of time to execute, LSU did it in much less. But they simply did not take advantage, the ball was fumbled, which gave UGA 3rd & long, and on that play they threw an interception. Simply put, it was an exciting game, they were both bad celebration penalties, but afterwards LSU, executed & UGA did not.

I want to believe the magic of Tiger Stadium at night but it's not magic. 32 games in a row they won at night and some against very good teams. It's going to have a huge impact on the game for Florida and the only way they are going to stop it is by going up 3 scores and I don't see that happening before the half. LSU will be playing at a very high tempo with an acute sense of awareness. It's going to be a very good team against a team that will be playing like one. LSU 27 Florida 24.

Wayne D. You are right, Both teams had bad calls that did nothing to influence the outcome of the game. None of the bad calls took any points off the boards, nor did they directly put points on the boards. In the UW-ND game, however, that cannot be said.

Geaux Tigers, You are correct in your assessment of the Referees at the UW-ND game. they also called back a Touchdown for Washington when the replay showed that the ball was over the goal line when the runner's knee hit the ground. Later on they called a TD for ND in the exact same situation, (ball over the Goal line, runners knee down.) Of course, they were big ten refs, and Washington won't be allowed to beat ND. Polk did one hell of a job running against ND though. GO GATORS!!!!

SEC admits bad call.....SO WHAT....is that supposed to make Georgia fans feel better.....The rule is supposed to be about EXCESSive celebration or Taunting....these refs now bust their asses to get in a kids face after a touchdown to make sure they don't SMILE too big......I don't like taunting or too much of the LOOK at ME celebrations but I'm for the RAW Excitement of the big game SHOWING on these YOUNG KIDS.

If the SEC wants to be a true leader then we should be the first to say "we are not calling these celebration penalties anymore" I'm sure the other conferences will follow and F__K the NCAA if they don't like it...

I agree it was horrible call Green made an amazing catch to put his team ahead with a little over minute to play and all he does is point at himself and the ref decide to not jst ruin the moment but a great game. Are u serious how do u call that ref at that moment seriousy one of the worst calls i have ever seen. Just horrible we went from being 4-1 to 2-2 because of a stupid ref what a shame.

I'm a die-hard Georgia fan and I was devastated when I saw that Georgia lost to LSU, especially when Scott scored the touchdown and we did not do anything about it; he scored it clean because our defense did not stop him when we had a chance to save LSU from their second touchdown. Defense has a lot of cleaning up to do, but I also feel that the referees have a reputation of flaunting their authority, especially if they called a celebration penalty. I have moved on from what happened that evening but this will go down as a loss that we will never forget. I just hope that this game will be a learning experience and we don't need to see a loss like this again.

I am an avid dawgs fan and i have only these few things to say. the refs made bad calls at the end for excessive celebration...but they did all day so blame the refs for our losing i do not. but if there is one player that should be blamed at least partly its definitely joe cox...i mean he had the worst first half imaginible and yet the defense still got us into the second half down only 6. and i've heard dawg fans saying we need to get rid of mark richt...yea f***in rite. we need you no longer as a fan if thats how you feel. richt handles himself very well and never shows any emotion be it happy or sad. he calls it like it is and that is to be respected, and for those of you dawg fans blaming the subpar tackling of rennie curran and the other two that touched the running back on that td run, know this rennie curran averages 11 tackles a game (best in the sec) there are 10 other players that could have stopped that but didnt...im surprized we are out of top 25 although i sholdnt be, but what is more surprizing is lsu being ranked in the top 5 after that poor display of football they showed...but we all kno how screwed up the rankings are for now go dawgs!!!!!

basics of a true fan, 1) most true fans grew up from early childhood watching sports and favored one team over another and carried their fanhood thruout their life. 2) does not compare his education as the reason why they are the true fan. 3)may or may not be a season ticket holder but follows the exploits of the favorite team throughout their life. 4) does not defend their team when the team obviously is screwing up. 5)allows other fans to claim fanhood knowing he is not the only expression of what a fan is.

Am an LSU Fan, and believe both teams suffered unnecessarily due to the celebration penalties. Neither team executed as well as they should have considering the talent - have to believe that is a matter of coaching in the end. Kudos to the UGA defense - all those sacks in the 4th Quarter were evidence of their desire to win. LSU seems to find a way to win weekly that amazes even the most devout fans - I do agree they are not a strong offensively or defensively as they should be and are, often, very lucky considering.

All that said, it was a good game, lots of great moments from both teams, and Coach Richt again showed his strength of character by not stooping to blame the loss on the officials. Rather, like every good commander, he accepted responsibility and recognized the strengths and weaknesses of both teams. I too, believe him to be one of the classiest coaches in the SEC and belive UGA is lucky to have a man with his integrity at the helm.

As for Rick Z - you are conclusive proof that the gene pool, whereever it is that you live, is polluted.

Little Sugardaddy, if we follow your logic, then Georgia must be worse than UTEP, right? After all, Georgia lost to Oklahoma State, who lost to Houston, who lost to UTEP.

I'll be sure to mention in all of the threads from now on that you think Georgia is worse than UTEP. Thanks for the tip, inbred retard!
