COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP)—Chris Turner passed for two touchdowns and Maryland overcame two late missed field goals by Clemson in a 24-21 win on Saturday.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak by the Terps (2-3, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), who snuffed out the Tigers’ final drive at the 28 with a sack and fumble recovery by Demetrius Hartsfield with 27 seconds to play.

Clemson (2-3, 1-2) cut the score to 24-21 with 4:11 left in the third quarter after C.J. Spiller scored on a 92-yard kickoff return and a 2-point conversion pass from Kyle Parker to Michael Palmer. The Tiger could have tied and taken the lead but Richard Jackson missed field goals from 47 and 48 yards away.

Maryland was held to 28 yards and a single first down in the first quarter as Clemson built a 10-0 lead. But the Terps rallied with 17 points in the second quarter to pull ahead.

Turner completed 19 of 26 passes for 215 yards and had scoring tosses of 29 yards to Torrey Smith and 4 yards to Ronnie Tyler. The pass to Tyler put Maryland ahead 17-13 with 35 seconds left in the first half.

Maryland managed just 69 yards on 45 carries, fumbling four times on— losing two. The Terps outgained the Tigers 284-274.

Kyle Parker was 20-for-37 passing for 180 yards and Spiller rushed for 72 yards for the Tigers.

Smith, who caught three passes for 64 yards, became the first ACC player to go over 1,000 all-purpose yards this season.

Maryland’s go-ahead drive covered 81 yards with Turner completing 5 of 5 passes for 49 yards and running the ball four times for 27 yards. The Terps closed the half with an interception by Jamari McCullough at the goal line.

Maryland punter Nick Ferrara had a big day, as well. He was forced to handle the punting duties due to an injury, averaging 43.2 yards on eight punts. He had punts of 61 and 53 yards in the first half.

As i watched the game on yesterday(it took me that long to respond to that lost) i was a little well a lot disappointed with my hometown team. They looked okay on de at times but they looked like they were just relying on the notion that they are the superior unit taking for granted that they would have to actually have to play a little. And as for their offense well that was the worse that i have ever seen... I mean I've been a loyal fan of the tigers since Danny Ford lead them to the National title ( the only one in schools history) an i have never seen anything like that. CJ to left, CJ to middle, Cj to right are all good plays if you are blocking. all coaches an staff members say the same thing... you need to play 3 phases of the game. well what do you do when the coaches themselves aren't getting the message across? Well i think that yes we as tiger fans are over due, we have seen the teams in the past have more talent, more power and more speed that the other teams in the conference, but WE always fall up 1 or 2 plays away from winning the game or the conference title game.I think that with all the rookie coaches on the staff that maybe if he's still there the ex coach from the Eaches, Jeff Jabocaski, (hope i spelled that right) as a offensive coordinator, assistant head so if Dabo is having any question he can call on his knowlegde. He needs us as well as we need to have someone that can scheme and design an offense that can run, pass, and pick up 1st downs an score in the red zone instead of trying to kick field goals on every trip in the re zone.

Clemson is playing the same ball under Dabo as they did under Bowden. Dabo was under Bowden and "learned" a lot from him. Why should anyone expect different results by hiring him??? I didn't like it that they hired him in the first place.

The talent on this Tiger team is pretty amazing... too bad the coaching is average.

Diehard Tiger fan, just ready for some change.

Wow.....how did Clemson lose to this pathetic Maryland team, who's only other win , was just barely against (drum roll) (cough) James Madison. The turtles were trounced just last week in College Park by mighty Rutgers, lost to (cough, cough) Middle Tennessee Somebody and got absolutely thumped by Cal. Clemson just blew their season and are destined for Boise, Idaho again for the Holidays or some other obscure place and bowl.

Dabo is doing fine however he may have chosen the wrong offensive coaching staff but time will tell. The problem with Clemson lies with the offense as it has for the past several seasons. They appear to be feeding the ball too much to their two major weapons. The other teams have keyed on these two stars and have made it difficult. Clemson must utilize their TEs and FB more which will open things.
The sign of a great coach is the ability to know when to be patient and when to make changes/adjustment.

Clemson went to the right to setup Jackson, who likes to kick from the right hatch. It's ironic that we planned our offense to put him in position and he failed twice. I knew what Dabo was doing - how hard could it be for Ralph Friedgen to figure it out? I'm still on the fence with Sweeney, but I can't help but get mad that we don't have Tuberville of Fulmer back there when they were available. Tahj Boyd isn't going to fix this situation - it's going to take experience. As a Clemson fan, you can't expect too much with a freshman quarterback and a rookie coach, but I hate to see Spiller stay and the Tigers reward him with these losses. It's still possible to win out, but these type loses don't look good.

a dismal loss for a team with superior talent. I guess Dabo is now officially on the hot seat. Need someone with more experience, no? rahrah is great but ya gotta coach, and you have to win this game, and they somehow did not. I am at a loss, it's not just the team.

Tahj Boyd...the offense needs other options. I have seen Temple U play and Clemson: Temple of all schools is better right now. They have an offensive line that is better and a defense that would challenge.

Richard Jackson should adjust like a pool player on the cue ball. The offense should run towards the left once in a while as opposed to all towards the right.

I know Bowers had a few sacks but where was the pass rush today? Clemson got no pressure on Turner for the entire first half and most of the game. I also think teams have caught on two Clemson's 2 plays....screen pass to Ford and pitch right to Spiller. Aside from the 93 yd. TD run our offense looked grimm. Parker was very unimpressive, but even more baffling is why Korn was brought in for one series when Parker had played decent to that point. If you don't have confidence in Parker play Korn full time or vice versa. Here are the facts year after year for Clemson....they will crush an inferior team at home in the first game of the season, they have blinding speed but make dumb mistakes, especially on special teams. They rely too much on their fg kickers because they don't finish drives into the endzone. They will make Sports Center, they just won't come through in the clutch. So dad....Dabo...time for you to go,and it's time to bring in a top notch coach who can do something with a team who recruits great players.

Don't hold your breath on MD going to a bowl game. Today was likely 1/2 of Maryland's conference win total.

It would be hilarious if Maryland, having lost to Middle Tennessee State and nearly losing to James madison, were to win out in the ACC and become ACC champs. They always play their best football in the latter half of the season, and it would be funny to see them go to a BCS bowl.

How enigmatic is Maryland? They can't beat Middle Tennessee State, but they beat Clemson by 3 (the margin of victory as their win over James Madison, 38-35).

Dabo Sweeney was such a premature hire. Clemson is a team that has been stuck in neutral for a long time now. In a Conference where they definitely have had the talent to win they continue to disappoint. Bad loss, esp. to a team that loses to the crap teams Maryland has lost to and was a 13 pt. Underdog.
