Valentino leads Dayton past Duquesne 24-17

DAYTON, OHIO (AP)—Steve Valentino threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns to lead Dayton to a 24-17 win over Duquesne on Saturday.

The Flyers (2-1) trailed 10-7 in the second quarter when Duquesne’s Eric Duale made a 31-yard field goal. But Valentino, who completed 19-of-29 passes and one interception, put Dayton ahead 14-10 when he connected with Luke Bellman on a 62-yard touchdown.

Nick Glavin’s 32-yard field goal and a 5-yard run by Brian Mack gave the Flyers a 14-point lead midway through the fourth quarter.

Valentino, who finished with 76 yards rushing on 20 carries, also threw a 58-yard touchdown to Justin Watkins in the first half. Watkins caught three passes for 105 yards, while Bellman also had three receptions for 103 yards.

Larry McCoy led the Dukes (1-3) with 118 yards rushing on 14 carries, including a 67-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
