Defense leads Falcons to 26-14 win over Aztecs

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP)—Reggie Rembert returned a fumble 47 yards for a score, the first of Air Force’s two defensive touchdowns, and Erik Soderberg tied a school record with four field goals, lifting the Falcons to a 26-14 win over San Diego State on Saturday.

The Falcons (3-1, 2-0 Mountain West) have won three straight over the Aztecs (1-3, 0-1).

The opportunistic Air Force defense recovered two fumbles and picked off four passes, including a 47-yard interception return for a score by Anthony Wright in the third quarter.

Rembert had a day to remember, intercepting two passes, forcing a fumble and scooping up Aztecs quarterback Ryan Lindley’s fumble and outracing everyone to the end zone early in the game.

This was the second game back for Rembert, who missed the first two following a suspension for an unspecified violation of Academy standards.

    So Dan, if the option is highschool, what is the wildcat scheme that Miami showcased last Monday against the Colts for 200+ yards rushing? It seems more PRO teams are using this scheme...and if the option is high school, then so is that.

    Dan...kids dont come to the service academies to play football. They come to the academy to become leaders as 2nd Lieutenants in the armed forces. You wont hear about any criminals on the academy teams. I wonder if any Minnesota players have been in the news for anything recently? In fact, you may hear about a couple AFA grads serving their country in Iraq or Afghanistan. Ever heard of Chad Hennings?

    I guess there's your answer. If you want to label it as 'high school' ball to make yourself feel better. So be it. "High School" seemed to beat your team for 3 quarters. Good luck against SDSU.

    Come on Dan, throughout the history of college football people have run the option successfully. Alabama under Paul Bryant, Clemson in the early 90's, and look at what Navy of all teams almost did to Ohio State a couple weeks ago. You might not find it exciting, but that doesn't mean it is effective!

    Option football is reserved for high school, which is why Air Force can't get past good teams.

    I love option football. Three completions.....................sounds like Oklahoma in the 70's and 80's, or the Colorado Buffs cerca 1990 under McCartney.

    The defense alone is not going to beat TCU or BYU. AF might as well have left the wide receivers on the bench because they were not used the entire game. 3 completed passes in the whole game! Disgraceful! And, not only could the Falcons not get into the end zone on offense (mostly because they couldn't or wouldn't pass), they couldn't convert on 3rd downs (mostly because they couldn't or wouldn't pass.) I know this was a back-up quarterback, but if he can't pass the ball, then he's not a quarterback! Hey, coach, you can't win a football game only on the ground. Surely there must be one guy on the entire team who can pass the ball to a receiver more than 3 times a game. If you have to, put the kicker in to toss the ball...he did a tramendous job kicking all after noon. I love AFA football, but today was poorly executed and poorly coached...they're lucky they played San Diego today and not a team that could actually play football. Better change your tactics and step it up next week...
