SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP)—Lamon Muldrow rushed for a career-high 184 yards and scored a touchdown as San Jose State ended its three-game losing streak with a 19-9 victory over visiting Cal Poly on Saturday.

Muldrow, a junior college transfer making his first career start at San Jose State (1-3), ripped off a 71-yard, fourth-quarter run to the Mustangs’ 2-yard-line, setting up his own touchdown which put the game away.

Jono Grayson gained a career-high 138 yards on 15 carries for Cal Poly (1-2), including a 53-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter that gave the Mustangs an early lead.

Jordan La Secla threw for 172 yards and two touchdowns for the Spartans. He connected with Jalal Beauchman on an 8-yard touchdown just before halftime and hit Marquis Avery for a 7-yard score in the third to give San Jose State the lead for good.

SJSU does have a great coach. Problem is probably always going to be recruiting. SJSU - Stanford University comparison is just not a fair comparison. Besides, Stanford is having a great year and has an excellent chance of beating USC this year. If Coach Tomey recruited his pick every year you could use the same 3-5 year standard of "turning things around". Unfortunately, turn around at San Jose State U may be running a clean program capable of upsetting a BCS team on occasion. Heck it's been worse.

I agree with post number 3. This is the fifth year of the Dick Tomey era and SHSU isn't that great. Yes attendance has improved and we are not (for the moment) a doormat any more. But just looked how SJSU got blasted by Stanford. Stanford came into that game with a chip on their shoulder. When we had Baldwin, we had the chip on our shoulder. I respect Tomey, he's an excellent coach and is well respected by his peers. But SJSU needs to go in a new direction. Get a young coach (like Baldwin or Baldwin himself) with ties to SJSU. Perhaps that fire will return!

Your right. We do still suck, but this was a big game for us to regain our confidence. This is the most heartless team I have seen in 40 years of watching SJS ball. I blame Tomey, who I think is past his prime, just like Ralston was when he came back in the 90's. We have talent, just no fire. I wish we still had Baldwin or Pat Hill at Fresno, even though he is not a coaching genius and makes some bad calls. We should still be able to get 6 wins and go bowling.
