RALEIGH, N.C. (AP)—Toney Baker scored from 2 yards out with 6:28 left and North Carolina State’s defense made a late stand to preserve a 38-31 victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday.

In a wild game in which the teams combined for 830 total yards, Russell Wilson threw four touchdown passes for the third straight week and finished 21 of 35 for 322 yards for the Wolfpack (3-1).

Wilson also rushed 10 times for 91 yards and led three straight second-half touchdown drives for N.C. State. The last was kept alive by two pass-interference calls on third downs against Pitt. Baker raced untouched through the left side two plays later to give N.C. State its first—and only— lead.

Bill Stull was 12 of 23 for 206 yards with two touchdown passes while Dion Lewis had two early scoring runs for the Panthers (3-1).

Post 18 - The same team who had a good shot of beating South Carolina who put it on Ole Miss. I just hope the Wolfpack get it all together after this game. They came back against a more physical team. O'Brien does a good job of keeping the group focused. Wannstedt was a maniac on the Pitt sideline taking his team through the highs and lows. He couldn't get them out of the lows. Maybe he can call Jimmy Johnson for some advice.... As for post 11, the Pack will be missing LB -Nate Irving (who will be a pro barring any other injuries) all season. Pitt fans are as bigger cry-babies than Tarheel fans....

I thought Big Least football fans might be different than their basketball counterparts..but the truth is right here....all this whining and complaining and blaming the officials....sounds like UNC fans...just admit that you got beat by a better team today....rock, you obviously know nothing about football....go home and wait for basketball season....Im sure you'll have plenty of chances to blame the refs this season...

Sorry, Drew. My post should have been a response to 'rock', telling how little his guarantees are worth. I guess he doesn't realize that NCSU was a 1-pt favorite over Pitt (source: Pitt Panther Examiner)

DREW G - I can almost guarantee you that the same team that played South Carolina the first week of the season will show up more often than not the rest of the year. It's the history of your program. NC State will never be more than a middle of the pack ACC team. It's a bad and embrassing loss for Pitt.

Oh and by the way, when a game is played at home by an acc school, then the opposite league they are playing uses their conference officials. It has always been like that in college football, so dont blame it on Acc officials when they were not even there....haha

rock_77_2000 are you serious? If State is not a good football team then Pitt absolutely sucks. Russell Wilson obviously must have been a pretty good Qb before Pitt showed up, because he was 1st team all Acc last year and has even better numbers this year. I also beg to differ that Pitt has better talent than NSCU, this was a hard fought game as expected. But to sit there and say Pitt has better talent hahaha and State is not that good, you are definately funny !!!!

This was yet another embarassing Pitt effort on defense. No offense, but NC State is just not a good team. Pitt has better athletes who are just not being coached properly. It seems like quarterback comes to life when they play Pitt. On the bright side, the offense has been a pleasant surprise. They are going to have to continue to be for this team to be competitive. There are several good quarterbacks Pitt is going to face the rest of the year who are licking their chops right now.

There is an easy way to distinguish a sports fan from simply someone who pull for a particular school. As soon as their teams loses, the latter starts blaming the officials. They embarrass themselves. When my teams loses, there is no "It was the officials". Because that is the best way to make an ass of yourself and embarrass your school.

#8 Pitt's secondary was bad because the D-Line didn't pressure NC State's QB often, especially in the 2nd half.
What was far worse than the secondary was Pitt LB's. After the 1rst Q they pretty much disappeared. The LB's especially Max Gruder got beat consistently by NC State's RB's coming out of the backfield on little dump passes. Pitt sorely missed Senior LB Adam Gunn today, as the rest of the LB's have very limited experience and it really showed today. And apparently nobody on the sideline (hello Phil Bennett) could make any adjustments, as NC State went up and down the field in the 2nd half pretty much at will. NC State's QB pretty much picked apart Pitt's inexperieced LB's and when the D-Line got tired in the 2nd half from being on the field so much, and couldn't pressure the QB, then the Secondary started getting torched. Although the calls on NC State's last TD drive against Pitt's DB' s were
highly questionable, can anyone say homer calls. Pitt would win easily on a neutral field.

I almost gave up on the Pack with all the penalties, missed field goals and other miscues early own. But the team seems to have a lot of talent and composure. The latter is something that has been missing the past few years. This win and a loss by UNC is sweet.

Big Least Officials. Ole Wolfpack did not play their best and still won. Special teams for the Pack need to pick it for the Demon Deacons next week. Russell Wilson is a stud. Too bad he will be playing minor league baseball somewhere his last year of eligibility.

When is Pitt going to wake up and become a solid football team from start to finish...Bill Stull should not be our quarterback. He has a weak arm, his reads are terrible and does not even look to run outside the pocket. Baldwin is 6 5" and you probably couldn't hit him with a beach ball. I agree with BSDUDES, they need to bring a different quarterback to the team. Pat Bostick should get an opportunity, he has actually won some big games..WAKE UP WANNSTEDT …be a better judge of talent! Also, who the hell is the secondary coach on this team.....he should get fired. Our D-line played great but the secondary looked liked a JV scout team. I ‘ll give NC State two thumbs up, they played a great second half while Pitt became a disaster. Same results every year!

Wannstedt needs to learn how to control his anger, did he think he was going to come into Carter Finley and intimidate the refs?? Really??

State's Offensive Line was AWESOME!! NCSU's receivers were on fire, and Russell Wilson showed why he was last season's ACC Offensive Player of the Year!!

Stull is...well, not very good. But those calls by the refs in the 4th quarter were complete garbage. Still, the defense has to be accountable for never adjusting to the throws across the middle.

First time this season I've seen Pitt play on TV. Bill Stull throws like a girl. His passes sail, he threw behind Baldwin several times in what would have been big plays, he still can't throw an "out" route and he can barely throw a screen pass acurately. And that last series where Pitt had 1rst and goal from the NC State 9 yard line Stull was downright terrible. He couldn't even throw a pass on 4rth down to anyone on the field. Surely Tino Sunseri or Pat Bostick is better or hell even put Greg Cross at QB, at least he can run & make some plays ala the Iowa game last year. No way Pitt should have lost after going up 31-17, but with a horrid QB who can't make many accurate throws that is what happens!
