South Florida gets 17-7 win over No. 18 FSU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP)—Redshirt freshman B.J. Daniels ran for 126 yards and threw two touchdown passes in his first collegiate start Saturday to lead undefeated South Florida to a 17-7 win at No. 18 Florida State in the first meeting between the schools.

Daniels was filling in for senior Matt Grothe, out for the season with a knee injury.

It was the first time since Nebraska’s Steve Taylor ran for 139 yards against the Seminoles in 1986 that an opposing quarterback rushed for over 100 yards against them.

Florida State (2-2) lost four fumbles, including a critical one by quarterback Christian Ponder that allowed USF to ice the game.

Daniels, a Tallahassee kid not heavily recruited by Florida State, totaled 341 yards of offense.

MAN, just when I think Florida State is back as a real football team, again, they go and lose this game! WOW! I just can not believe it! What an up and down wishy washy pathetic team. Zero consistency! You lost to this school? Who are they? WHAT??!!!!! You should be way off the top 25 ranking, now, but you aren't.....AMAZING! Goes to show you how biased and what BS polls really are. Give this football program the tomahawk chop and put it out of its misery!

I am a huge gator fan but i am currently an USF student so the bulls are my second favorite team. This means that I REALLY dislike everything about FSU! I was at the game 22 rows back on the goal line and was amazed by the play of the defense! The hits were intense and the student section was going nuts! USF is under appreciated and under ranked as well... We are undefeated and playing extremely well but yet the media sees us more like the Vanderbilt of our conference and the rankings prove it. I guess when we have to play cinn. shortly that we will see if what I am saying is correct but I believe we are better then FSU and are very capable of having a one or a no loss season even without grothe at the wheel! As for the trip to TALLY... We had tremendous support from our USF faithful... I havent seen that much green even at some of our home games. The fans on TV couldnt see that but outside there were a million USF tailgate parties going on! Still, I hate going to Tally because of the rude ass fans (with the exception of a few very nice ones), the horrible parking, and the even worse traffic! All in all GO BULLS!

I can never feel sorry for a program that stole the NCAA Football Championship from Notre Dame in 1993. Notre Dame beat FSU head to head fair and square and yet somehow you get the title...complete BS and I will never like Bobby Bowden and the dirty program that he runs.

re: samlet76 FSU wanted BJ to play safety, not WR or running back. Not that it matters

The only thing anyone can take from this game are 2 things: USF played better and wanted the win more. FSU didn't show up. Plain and simple.

On that given day, USF was better. Are they a better team than FSU in general? Probably not, but they won so you gotta give it to them. For the life of me I cannot figure out why FSU is allowing Bowden to stick around. It's sad because a great coach who has not only done amazing things for FSU, but for the entire college football world, is going to be forced out of his job. He should have hung it up 4-5 years ago. I gaurantee we wouldn't be having any of these conversations right now. Most of you might not know, but after the game almost the entire FSU team was out on the field high-fiving and joking around with their old buddies on USF, like nothing bad had just happened. Ponder was pissed, and 2 players were on the bench clearly dissapointed... 2 players. Well, they were freshman (Greg Reid and Jacobbi McDaniel). What does that state about your program when 2 freshman and your QB are the only ones that seemed dissapointed after such a huge upset? It all falls back on the coaches.

On a brighter note, thank you USF fans for the comments. We (real) FSU fans always treat our visiting fans with the upmost respect. I was at the game as well and offered my congradulations to a few Bulls fans. You earned it and have a great team to be proud of.

As I said last week after FSU played so well at BYU, on any given Saturday. One game does not make a season. FSU has a fantstic group of athletes who have only been motivated to or decided to play one good game this year so far. Something is missing. They proved they have the talent at BYU but they don't trot it out on the field very often.

USF dominated FSU. That's all there is to it. Fast on defense ain't good enough. You have to be physical and we aren't.

The offensive line should wear dresses this week to classes.

Witnessing this game almost made me vomit. Turning the ball over is the only reason we ever lose. The safeties for FSU were played up too close and it's easy to see why we lose. GET OVER IT YOU SPOILED BANDWAGON FANS! It wasn't Bobby's fault! Oh, and our new coach to be called a run down 10 with 2 minutes left, yeah, real smart! Who cares whos to blame? Let's pretend our two losses never happened and move on as a 'Nole nation! Things can only get better before getting worse!

samlet76 - thank you for your comment about our graciousness. FSU fans are true fans of the game. We do need a change at FSU. Love him to death, but it's time to go Bobby.

Posted a prayer for Tim Tebow last night on facebook and the UF fans jumped all over me and put FSU down. Nice. They are becoming as classless as "the U". Too bad too. I'll still root for the Gators until we play them.

Totally agree with some that this is just a game. And true fans of FSU, will be there win or lose. Watched them in Baghdad for the FSU-Miami game and thought they were special (they are a special team that have nothing left to lose anymore). Remember, we have yet to start the games that matter.

    Go Noles!

One of the more exciting games to be at for me. Nice to see 20K Bulls fans showing up and sticking with the team. FSU fans were really one of the nicest groups of folks to play against -- no scuffles in the stands and I had several Seminole fans approach me after the game and give nice comments. Enjoyed being at Doak for the first time. Beautiful campus as well.

I'm a little surprised the Bulls didn't break the top 25, but that's what we get for playing 3 cupcakes to start the season.

Thanks for the hospitality Noles! Go Bulls!

How anyone who actually watched the FSU/Miami game could think that either of them are very good is beyond me. There is only one of the 4 major Florida teams that deserves to be ranked at all. From what I have actually seen, USF, FSU and Miami are all borderline rankings teams at best this year. I will still hope for the bulls to improve their play. Beating FSU was great, but it is not as impressive as it would have been when they were still a decent team.

I too was at the game and I would like to thank the Seminole fans for their graciousness in defeat. The reason that BJ came to USF was that he wanted to play both Football (at quarterback) and Basketball. FSU felt that they had sufficent strength at quarterback, and so they told him that he would have to play either wide receiver or running back in the football program. USF gave him what he wanted. As for all the negativity around the Seminole program. That game could have gone either way up until we finally managed to kick a field goal, especially with the dominant field position that FSU had in the second half. Full credit to USF for wanting it more and showing once again that they play best as underdogs. Let's see if we can maintain focus in the Big East and finally take the championship.

Actually, I do have the right to act like a jerk. But then, you have a right to misinterpret me as well.

I'm still wondering also why B. J. Daniels is not in a NOLE uniform so please give me an answer.

the acc has had trouble beating the big east schools ever since the acc aquired vt bc and miami they play the acc harder than they do anybody else.as far as one conference being better than another i just dont think so other than a few schools nobody is a clear favorite to beat any body.anytime a smaller school gets a chance to play a bigger team from the same state they get really up for them amd if the bigger teams players dont match that theyre in trouble as far as everyone complaining that the acc hasnt beaten anyone look at youre on conference and see who theyve beaten look at fla they havent really played anyone either except for tenn and thats ok its early no team has really went out and beaten a powerhouse team yet these are not bowl games everyone wants theyre team to win every game and some will if the schedule is right but theres a lot of parity these days and you cant over look anybody being a former player sometimes you just get beat no matter who u are does anybody think that vt is as good as they were against miami yesterday or that miami is that bad of course not fla st is not as bad as they looked either the other team just done what it took to beat them
