Kentucky survives Louisville scare 31-27

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP)—Derrick Locke returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown and ran for another score as Kentucky outlasted Louisville 31-27 on Saturday, the Wildcats’ third consecutive victory against the in-state rival Cardinals.

This back-and-forth battle for the Governor’s Cup wasn’t won until the final 2 minutes when Louisville quarterback Justin Burke was driving for a potential game-winning score, only to have a pass tipped by Corey Peters and picked off by Sam Maxwell.

Kentucky (2-0) had to punt the ball back to Louisville, but Burke’s last-second Hail Mary was incomplete.

A fumbled kickoff return set up Kentucky’s final score, a 12-yard pass from Mike Hartline to a leaping Randall Cobb—his former rival for the starting quarterback job. Prior to that, Louisville (1-1) had taken the lead by forcing three consecutive Wildcats turnovers.

Who started UofL's downward trend??? Rutgers baby!! Showing those so-called football players what Big East football is all about. Go back to Conference USA and "claim" you are a pretender...(opps, I mean contender).

Many so called UofL fans have been complaining and crying about Kragthorpe..... bottom line, he coached his a$$ off yesterday. I've been a fan forever, I remember sitting on cold metal bleachers in Old Cardinal Stadium and watching Brett Favre and Southern Miss come in and beat us 65-8.
We've had Schnellenberger, John L. , Cooper, my personal favorite Petrino (who is in it for him and only him) and now Kragthorpe who in my opinion is doing what he was hired to do..... clean up a program that had become a victim of its own success. Whose players were beginning to believe their own hype and who were allowed to behave in any way they felt they could.
Success is not winning, success is competing and competing with pride, respect and love for your respective sport.
That was a great game between two teams with coaches who expect excellence from the young men who represent our state, cities and schools. Many so called UofL fans (you know who you fairweather jerks are) said this was gonna be terrible and a blowout..... they showed me alot and makes me anticipate the rest of the year.
I wish all players on both squads a great and bowl bound season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UK made more mistakes than the Cards, and they still won the game! I'm not sure how Cards fans can claim they should have won, they were lucky to be in it!

I would just like to point out a few things, in case anyone missed it... yougotdit said "The game should have been won by the cards," which is a valid comment in some contexts but not when the rest of the sentence is "they just couldn't get it in the endzone almost every time they were there." I would like to put forward the perhaps too bold idea that a team that "just couldn't get it in the endzone almost every time they were there" should not have won a game. I would propose (it's radical so you may want to be sitting down) that the team who scored the most points should have won. That is my possibly flawed understanding of the rules of football, but I'm going to stand by my interpretation.

Oh, and to correct another mistake, we are discussing the men's football program here. I am unaware of the existence of a women's football team at either school, but I may be wrong. In any case you may be surprised to lean that men have a penis and women have a vagina (confusing I know, but a point that vastly repays close attention) so Florida will be unable to hand the UK men's football team their vaginas, the team not having any of their own to have handed to them.

Just so that you know when Petrino was at Louisville they tried on numerous times to schedule many of the high profile SEC football teams. Not one would play us. Would not look good in their eyes to a team that was on the upswing in football. Ask Miami and Florida State about this. They scheduled us as often as they could and until we beat them and were competitive. By the way South Florida stomped Auburn two years ago and I seem to remember West Virginia beas Georgia at the Georgia Dome in the Sugar Bowl two years ago too. Hard to make comparisions when teams don't compete against each other. I will give the SEC credit they are the best football conference top to bottom. The only problem they have is they only play each other during the regular season so they don't lose to other good football schools during the season. Very few SEC schools play other big time none confernece schools. Tennesse has been playing pac 10 schools with mixed results and Auburn has played a couple of Big East teams with a split decision.

ul fans are often worse then the UK fans that they despise so much. In basketball last year when ul, heavily-favored, at home, hit a shot to win the game, as time expired, UK fans were not whining that 'no one actually won the game,' or 'the game should have been won by the Cats.'

UofL fans have to live vicariously through other programs to potentially see UK lose, as UofL sure as hell can't do it for themselves. The Commonwealth sweep is going to be fun, as Coach Brooks fulfilled his end of the bargain, now Coach Cal needs to @#$% slap Slick Rick and his tardinal team around like a redheaded step-child. Go 'Cats!

We got to have one of the weakest teams this yr. first we struggle with a d2 team and then we blow this game. PLEASE FIRE KRAGTHROPE, this clearly a coach that aint ready for big time college football. remember we was a 10 ten team when he got here.

All i have to say is if UL can't beat UK they don't need to be in bowl because they can't win in the Big East..Go back to Conference USA Louisville and get rid of that so-called coach.

I have to laugh at your comments Mike. It was the obvious ul fan yougodit that precipitated any comments. But I guess you would not want to acknowledge that because you can't talk smack when you lost the game.

blah blah blah blah blah!!!!!! im so sick of uk fans always runnin there gums. when ur winnin its woohoo were the best, ul sucks, go cats and on and on and on....its the same ol thing all the time. no offense to fans that arent like that but for the most part this is true. not making excuses but ul prolly wont beat uk as long as krapthorpe i mean kragthorpe is coach. they played a good game and did have several opportunities 2 win the game and blew it. i question the play calling once again for example when they decided to go for the 1st on 4th and 1 and call an option play. wtf?! why u gonna run an option on 4th and 1. there was another drive where it was 3rd and long and they run the ball. i mean i dont get it. ill give credit where its due. uk kept playin hard and they were able 2 sneak away with the w after playin horrible and committing 3 turnovers in a row. but they kept there poise and kept playin. ul looked good most of the game til the 4th quarter and opened the door for uk when they made 2 costly turnovers. hopefully they will remain confident and keep there head up after a good game and bounce back with a win against a top 25 team in utah. well see. i hope so. but uk fans jus quit runnin it so much. i cant wait 2 see what all of u put on here the next few weeks as u face florida and alabama. come talk 2 me then and well see how much u talk then. good luck 2 u

What a game. When you play badly and still win, it's a great thing. The Cats gave the cards many chances to take the game but the cards just don't have the heart of a winner. I know all the cards' fans will be bemoaning the loss of a game they could have won. But, when it counted UK stepped up and ul did not.

I really like the Cards but I love the Cats. In this game the Cards should have won, three turn overs, bad timing with some dume fouls kept the Cards in the game with a very good chance to win. If U.K. can get a time keeper and hold on to the ball they might go 7 and 4 this year. Hope the Cats and Cards go to bowl games this year. Yea the STATE OF KENTUCKY, GO BLUE, GO RED

This coming from a guy who is routing for a big east school. Name 1 school in the big east "Yougodit", that can play with any SEC team? Louisville doesn't have the balls to schedule a team like Florida.... or any other SEC school besides Ky. Oh yeah, did you realize that that's 3 in a row for KY, YEAH BABY..... GO CATS

Both teams suck and I'm a CARDS fan. To go for it on the fourth and one early on was a good call, however coach K picked a weird way to convert it and they got their a** handed to them. The game should have been won by the cards, they just couldn't get it in the endzone almost every time they were there. It was a pitiful game played by both teams and neither team won, they both played like crap. Florida will hand UK their vaginas when they meet. Good luck UK, I can't wait to see you lose!!!!

In this game you saw it all poor officiating, poor clock work, and poor play by both teams. If UK plays like this next week it will be 100 - 0. Hopefully the Cats will rebound and at least have a respectable performance against the Gators next week.
