Massachusetts rolls past Albany 44-7

AMHERST, Mass. (AP)—Kyle Havens threw for 284 yards and two touchdowns to lead Massachusetts in a 44-7 victory over Albany (N.Y.) on Saturday night.

Havens was 20-for-32 with touchdown passes of 67 and 3 yards to Victor Cruz, who finished with six catches for 121 yards.

The Minutemen (1-1) also rushed for 189 yards behind Jon Hernandez, who had 88 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries, and Tony Nelson, who rushed for 77 yards and one score on 21 carries.

Massachusetts led 10-0 before Albany’s Andrew Smith scored on a 3-yard run to cut the lead to 10-7 with 9:06 left in the first half. Havens and Cruz connected on their 67-yard scoring pass just 44 seconds later to increase the lead to 17-7.

The Minutemen padded their lead with 17 fourth-quarter points.

Justin Gannon led Albany (0-2) with 61 yards on the ground.
