NEW ORLEANS (AP)—Everything was working for Brigham Young on Saturday.

The No. 9 Cougars got two touchdown passes from Max Hall, and Bryan Kariya and J.J. DiLuigi each scored twice on the way to a 54-3 beating of Tulane.

BYU even got scores from its defense and backup quarterback.

They were so dominating they didn’t even have to punt.

“It shows we are going to come out every week hungry to play and eager to play because we love the game and love to win,” Hall said.

The Cougars (2-0) got off to a sluggish start following their big win over Oklahoma, managing only two field goals by Mitch Payne in the first quarter. BYU began hitting its stride just before halftime, though, starting a scoring spree of 48 unanswered points.

“Well, you get worn down,” said Tulane coach Bob Toledo. “They wear you down. They’re bigger, they’re more physical. They just keep executing and making first downs and scoring and they keep you off the field.”

Kariya rushed for the first of his two touchdowns with 3:28 remaining in the half, then caught a 12-yard scoring pass from Hall with 25 seconds left to give the Cougars a 20-3 margin at the break.

Hall completed 24 of 32 passes for 309 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception before leaving the game in the fourth quarter.

After a 3-yard score by DiLuigi in the third quarter, Hall hit McKay Jacobson for a 38-yard TD, to make it 34-3.

DiLugi ran for a 1-yard touchdown to open the fourth quarter. Then, Jordan Pendleton picked up a Tulane fumble and returned it 12-yards to give the Cougars a 47-3 lead, and BYU closed out the game with a 1-yard scoring run by backup quarterback Riley Nelson.

BYU had 527 yards of total offense, including 209 on the ground, and had possession of the football for 33:40 compared to 26:20 for the Green Wave.

“We thought we could get a good line push in the middle,” DiLuigi said. “We thought we could move the ball around and give more guys the opportunity to make plays.”

The Cougars used 10 players to rush the ball and the quarterbacks hit 12 different receivers.

Tulane, which went 2-10 last season, hasn’t had a winning season since 2002. The Wave were held to 162 yards of total offense, and their hopes of establishing a running game against BYU quickly dissipated. They managed only 37 yards rushing.

“Our defense may not be as quick as some of the other defenses, but we play physical and we will hit you,” said BYU defensive end Jan Jorgensen.

Tulane quarterback Joe Kemp managed to complete 14 of 19 passes for 101 yards with an interception and three sacks. The Green Wave’s only score, a 29-yard field goal, came after a 56-yard drive stalled on the BYU 6.

Byu lost to Utah 48-24, they also lost to Arizona by 31-21, you should seriously have your stats together when you write about something or someone.
    ----------------
Utah was the "real" national champion last season. No disgrace to drop one to that group of Utes.

Wow dawgmeat. Washington won their first game last weekend since a year and a half or something like that. Sounds like the Huskies are having a good season...not! The only thing that is overrated is the Huskies quarterback. what a joke he is. GO BYU!!
    ----------------
Washington was a powerhouse in the Don James era (1991 National Champions) and did pretty good for a couple of years under Neuheisel (should have played OU for the NT in 2000 season - they gave the game to FSU who lost to Miami......but Miami lost to Washington - no matter, OU clipped FSU pretty easily). But, they became kinder and gentler and can't beat anyone anymore. However, I wouldn't mind seeing the Huskies win one this week.........over USC. The Trojans have to lose their annual game somewhere.........who will it be?

Dawgmeat....you're just another idiot that knows nothing about the game of football. I'm no BYU fan, but you need to actually watch some football and not just look at the box scores and BCS affiliation. I bet you have Notre Dame, USC, OSU, and Florida flags in your closet to pull out at the appropriate time to root for YOUR team...pathetic

#16, are you saying Oklahoma isn't a real team? We'll see what happens when BYU plays FSU this weekend. The MWC looks good this year so its not like BYU has a free pass.

Oh wait, you root for Washington. Well, at least the Huskies can be proud of a 1-11 season this year! And by the way, everybody in the country knows that nobody in the entire PAC-10 is worth a crap either! You have USC and...............yeah, thought so. Even Baylor, the worst team in Big XII south, could kick the crap out of you guys! A high school team could destroy Washington! Wait, they're in the PAC-10, they already play high school teams. Have fun watching your Huskies get butt-stomped every single Saturday!

BYU would get smoked if they had to face a real team. so they pulled one out of their ass against OU ..... you think that can happen again ????? remember .... this is a team that shouldve lost to Washington last year .... and Washington sucked balls. worst case scenario is BYU goes undefeated and somehow plays Florida for the championship ......... then Florida would have gone pretty much the entire season without ever having to beat anybody worth a crap. LSU and the SEC Championship Game .... other than that it would be clear sailing for Florida. no worries though ..... BYU will lose ..... no doubt about it.

Who knew that the Cougars could actually play defense. Holding them to their lowest point total in 3 years! 2-11 on third downs. Either Oklahoma is going to be sad this year, or BYU is a frickin' good football team that can actually play defense. OKies will be fine against Idaho, but I think how they do, how they put them away, will be a good indicator for how they'll play the rest of the season. Cougars got FSU pretty soon. We'll see if they're for real.
