FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP)—Cornerback Jaquan Bryant returned two interceptions for touchdowns to help Marist defeat Sacred Heart 31-12 Saturday in the season opener for both teams.
Bryant scored on returns of 11 and 15 yards for the Red Foxes, who are playing their first season as a member of the Pioneer Football League.
Marist won its first season opener since 2002, when it also beat Sacred Heart, and won a season opener on the road for the first time since 1993.
Chris Debowski was 14 of 21 for 217 yards and one touchdown for the Red Foxes. James LaMacchio had eight catches for 153 yards, including a 56-yard reception and a 43-yard touchdown, and Kevin Pauly kicked a school-record 46-yard field goal.
Dale Fink was 30-for-44 for 237 yards and one touchdown for the Pioneers. Steve Dedesco had six catches for 79 yards.
