Prairie View stops Texas Southern, 17-7

HOUSTON (AP)—Jay Bluford rebounded from an early interception and threw a pair of touchdown passes as Prairie View A&M defeated Texas Southern, 17-7 in a Southwestern Conference game Saturday night in Reliant Stadium.

Demarckus Washington intercepted a Bluford pass and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown midway through the first quarter to give Texas Southern (0-1, 0-1) a 7-0 lead. But Bluford threw a scoring pass to Gab Osaze-Ediae later in the quarter to tie it.

Prairie View (1-0, 1-0) took the lead on Brady Faggard’s field goal with 6:42 left in the third quarter. Bluford connected with Brandon Bell for a 15-yard touchdown in the final period to complete the scoring.
