EL PASO, Texas (AP)—Brandon Thermilius ran for 79 yards and a touchdown as Buffalo defeated UTEP 23-17 Saturday night.

Buffalo (1-0), of the Mid-American Conference, scored two touchdowns in the second quarter along with a safety and built a 23-7 lead. Thermilius and Jason Williams ran for touchdowns and the Bulls recorded a safety after UTEP recovered a fumble in its own end zone. Zach Maynard connected with Naaman Roosevelt for 42 yards for another TD in the third quarter.

Donald Buckram ran for 108 yards and Trevor Vittatoe threw for 233 yards for the Miners (0-1) of Conference USA. UTEP reached the Buffalo 20-yard line in the final minutes but a holding penalty followed by an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty scuttled the drive.

When did Buffalo fans become so elitist? How many bowl games had you been to before last year?

Your team got a quality road win yesterday. And judging by the scores from this weekend, the MAC does not exactly look strong this season. Buffalo has a lot to replace from last year's team, but if anyone can make this team overachieve, it is Turner Gill.

UB fans should feel very fortunate to still have Turner and be 1-0. I'm in Nebraska, and although not a Husker fan, wish Turner and UB all the luck and karma in the world. Nebraska's pulling for UB to beat Pitt and get Turner some redemption against Pitt AD (former Husker AD) and legendary scumbag Steve Pederson.

Enjoy the victory. It's a good start. Next week vs Pitt will truly tell if this team has the potential to repeat. And, if they do win, good luck trying to get tickets to rest of the home games. Go Bulls.

Victory is victory. I'll take it. UTEP may not be the college football elite but i doubt they just rolled over. congratulations to UB and Turner Gill. He's put together a team of hard nosed fighters. From the stats I woulds say their production was better than average and is only going to get better. UTEP won in the stats categories but you have to make the most of opportunities when they come along, just like the Bulls did. Keep going Turner, one step at a time. Go Bulls, there may not be much else to cheer about in the city of Buffalo for the fall and winter.

It's nice to see the program start to come together and have positive results. When I went to U/B in the late 70's, we were a Division III school and our games were played at Rotary Field (most High Schools have a larger field).

Victory over UTEP is no indication of the season which lies ahead for UB and how they will fare in their conference, as poorly prepared as the Miners were tonight.
