HONOLULU (AP)—Greg Alexander threw a game-winning 8-yard touchdown pass to Rodney Bradley late in the fourth quarter to lead Hawaii to a 25-20 win over Central Arkansas in the season opener for both teams Friday night.

Alexander completed three touchdown passes and threw for 304 yards, overcoming a sloppy game in which Hawaii committed four turnovers and had to twice come from behind against the lower-division Bears.

A 66-yard run by Greg Salas with less than 2 minutes remaining brought Hawaii to the 8-yard line and put them in position to win. Salas also scored a touchdown and had 180 yards receiving.

The Bears’ Brent Grimes scored two touchdowns and rushed for 65 yards.

Central Arkansas held a 20-19 lead until the winning touchdown pass.

UCA played at Tulsa last fall and Tulsa beat them 62-34 and after seeing this score this proves what I said other than Boise the WAC is a joke. Then again other than my Trojans and maybe Cal the Pac-10 isnt that good. I also like the people who say Hawaii starts slow you got the crap kicked out of you last yr at Florida for the opener then struggled to beat Weber St 36-17 then lost to Oregon State and San Jose state. So is it usually the 5th game when your team begins to warm up? Oh well cant wait til next year because USC comes to town in fact other than playing host to Colorado in 2011 you will open with USC for the next 3 of 4 years! Might as well pencil in those losses now!!

The University of Hawai`i has a pension for playing "down" to their opponents - no matter what conference or division. Also, the Warriors have a knack for coming out flat in their season openers. What should get fans worried is how they will look in their first road game, because if they don't limit mistakes (turnovers), the back to back to back road games will crush their season.

On an up note, Greg Salas looked really good - not just catching passes and runs after, but his downfield blocking help get a few much needed first downs. Alexander seems to be settling down.

They can win 7 games this year. I mean they play Washington State next. And they are good enough to win 5 games in games in the WAC

UCA is D-1, just so happen to be D-1 AA whereas UH is D-1 A...UCA has a great offense but their slow defense is what cost them the game, too many missed tackles and assignments, either way UH has a lot to work on and did not make the WAC look any better. Just goes to show you that Southland Conference Football is a force to be reckoned with (somewhat lol). Now if only the State of Arkansas can get more in-state D-1 rivalries going on, but I digress.

Hawaii barely got by Weber St. last year, also an FCS school. Hawaii will be fine, but probably will end up 5-6th place in the WAC behind Boise, Nevada, LTech and either Fresno of SJSU.

UCA won it's conference last year at 10-2 and is full of athletes. They are not just another fluff team. Hawaii was lucky to have won the way they played.

Wow what an embarassing performance for Hawaii. Had to pull it out at the buzzer against a FCS school. Just further proof of how bad football really is in the WAC. Let me get this straight......a non D-1 school travels 2000 miles for a game against a supposedly bowl team hopeful and almost walks away with a win....WOW...Those articles I read about UH getting 7-8 wins this year better try again.
