Tenn.-Martin pounds Iowa Wesleyan 56-0

MARTIN, Tenn. (AP)—Miguel Barnes ran for 115 yards and three touchdowns to lead Tennessee-Martin to a 56-0 win over Iowa Wesleyan on Thursday night.

Barnes nearly matched his touchdown total of 2008 when he gained 478 yards and had four touchdowns. Barnes scored on runs of 5, 1 and 21 yards against Iowa Wesleyan.

It was the first shutout for Tennessee-Martin since its second game of last season and the first win in a season opener for Skyhawks’ coach Joe Martin in four tries.

Tennessee-Martin quarterback Cade Thompson picked up where he left off last season with 273 yards passing and three touchdowns. Thompson averaged 223 yards passing per game last season. Mike Hicks caught 10 passes for 108 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown.

Iowa Wesleyan (1-1), an NAIA program, was held to 74 yards total offense and managed only three first downs.

    The name of the Skyhawks head coach is not Joe Martin. It is Jason Simpson and they one their season opener last year too. Who wrote this crap? Get your facts straight before you write a story.
