Valparaiso beats Campbell 47-14

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP)—Ross Wiemer rushed for 148 yards and a touchdown, and Valparaiso returned an interception and a punt for scores, to help rout Campbell 47-14 on Saturday.

Wiemer was one of three Crusaders (3-7, 1-5 Pioneer League) to score on the ground, as Valparaiso outgained the Camels (1-9, 0-3) 342 rushing yards to 41. The Crusaders also capitalized on five turnovers, including four interceptions.

Campbell’s Brandon Chandler returned the opening kickoff 86 yards for a 7-0 lead, but Weimer’s 9-yard rush in the second quarter gave Valparaiso a 10-7 lead at halftime.

The Crusaders outscored the Camels 24-0 in the third quarter on Anthony Curry’s 38-yard interception return and John Popper’s 48-yard punt return for a touchdown.

The Crusaders went up 41-7 early in the fourth on Jake Riedel’s 2-yard run.
