Delaware St. defeats Norfolk St. 34-28

NORFOLK, Va. (AP)—Jaashawn Jones scored on an 1-yard run with 26 seconds remaining to lead Delaware State to a 34-28 victory over Norfolk State on Saturday.

Delaware State (4-6, 4-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) trailed 28-7 late in the first half before outscoring Norfolk State (4-7, 3-5) 27-0 the rest of the way.

Jones’ plunge capped an eight-play, 58-yard drive that was set up by Francis Adjei’s interception with 3:43 remaining in the game.

Norfolk State built its lead behind the play of Dennis Brown, who threw two first-half touchdown passes to Jamar Johnson and scored on a 16-yard run.

The Hornets cut the lead to 28-17 on Vashon Winton’s 21-yard pass to Darius Jackson with 8:55 left in the third quarter, and then scored on Brandon Hudson’s 11-yard run. Winton’s 2-point conversion run pulled Delaware State within 28-25 with 14:50 remaining.

Riley Flickinger kicked a 32-yard field to tie the game at 32 with 5:08 remaining in the game before the game-winning drive.

Brown rushed for 97 yards and a score, adding 111 yards and two touchdowns through the air.

Winton was 12 of 26 for 176 yards.

Chris Strother rushed for 83 yards on 16 carries, and Kareem Jones added 72 yards on 16 carries for Delaware State.
