THIBODAUX, La. (AP)—Jeremy Moses threw for 416 yards and four touchdowns and Stephen F. Austin overcame an early 19-point deficit to beat Nicholls State 50-39 on Saturday.
The Colonels (0-4, 0-2 Southland Conference) took a 19-0 lead in the first quarter, highlighted by Vincent Montgomery’s 62-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Robinson and Lardarius Webb’s 75-yard punt return for a score.
The Lumberjacks (4-3, 2-0) rallied in the second half, trimming the lead to 32-27 when Moses connected with Dominique Edison on a 2-yard score in the third quarter. Moses, who completed 37 of 59 passes, threw a 14-yard touchdown to Marcus Taylor to give Stephen F. Austin a 33-32 lead—its first of the game— with 14:19 left in the fourth quarter.
Nicholls State regained the advantage at 39-36 with 5:25 remaining in the game on a 1-yard scoring run by Montgomery, who ran for 59 yards on 17 carries. He also passed for 81 yards and two interceptions.
But Joe Savoie’s 24-yard interception return for a touchdown and a Cory Barlow returned an interception 63 yards for another touchdown helped Stephen F. Austin pull ahead for good.
