Dally tosses 4 TDs as Cal Poly routs UC Davis, 63-28

DAVIS, Calif. (AP)—Jonathan Dally completed 10 passes for 264 yards and four touchdowns to lead Cal Poly over UC Davis 63-28 on Saturday.

Junior receiver Ramses Barden caught five passes for 173 yards and three touchdowns in the first half for the Mustangs (4-2, 1-0). Cal Poly finished with a total of 704 yards on offense. UC Davis’ offense gained 404 yards.

Matt Engle threw for 298 yards and three touchdowns and Brandon Rice caught five passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns for the Aggies (2-5, 0-2).

Barden caught his first touchdown on a 53-yard pass from Dally in the first quarter. James Noble followed that by dodging several tacklers before scoring on a 26-yard run for the Mustangs. Dally ended the quarter with a 56-yard touchdown pass to Barden to make the score 21-0.

After recovering two of his three fumbles in the first quarter, Engle came back in the second quarter to throw a 23-yard touchdown to Bakari Grant followed by a 26-yard scoring pass to Rice. That trimmed Cal Poly’s margin to seven.

After Barden caught a 22-yard touchdown solely with his right hand, Rice followed with a 70-yard scoring pass from Engle. Ryan Mole’s 1-yard run gave Cal Poly a 35-21 halftime lead.

While the Aggies’ defense focused on Barden, Mole caught a 33-yard touchdown and Jono Grayson ran for two scores to push the Mustangs’ lead to 56-21 in the third quarter.

Cal Poly put 28 unanswered points on the board until UC Davis running back Joe Trombetta scored on a 5-yard run in the fourth quarter.

James Nobel had 94 rushing yards and two touchdowns and place kicker Andrew Gardner booted nine extra points for Cal Poly.

Grant caught seven passes for 118 yards and one score for the Aggies.
