Wyoming 37, Mississippi 32

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP)—Josh Barge returned a punt 87 yards and caught a 69-yard pass, both for touchdowns, to lead Wyoming to a 37-32 win over Mississippi on Saturday.

Joseph Harris added 121 yards on 23 carries and a score for Wyoming, which never trailed in improving to 2-1, its best start in five years. Ole Miss dropped to 1-3, the Rebels’ worst beginning since 1988.

Mississippi quarterback Ethan Flatt, making his second start, was intercepted four times and fumbled the ball away once, leading to 13 Wyoming points. The teams combined for 964 yards, including 567 by Mississippi.

Jonathan Nichols’ fourth field goal, from 43 yards, drew Mississippi within 30-25 with 6:45 remaining in the fourth quarter.

But three plays later, Cowboys wide receiver Jovon Bouknight took the handoff on a reverse and hit Barge in stride for the 69-yard TD, putting the Cowboys up 37-25.

Brandon Jacobs scored from a yard out with 1:38 left to draw Ole Miss within 37-32 and Mike Espy recovered an onside kick. But Wyoming’s Terrance Butler broke up a fourth-down pass by Micheal Spurlock to end the Rebels’ last drive.

Vashon Pearson rushed for a career-high 139 yards on 21 carries for the Rebels.

Flatt completed 19 of 44 passes for 284 yards, while Corey Bramlet was 15-of-31 for 170 yards for Wyoming, including a 14-yard TD to Bouknight.
