Washington Huskies Say Price is Ready to Take on Baylor: Fan’s Look

The Washington Huskies earned their first invitation to the Alamo Bowl on December 29 where they'll face recent Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III and the 9-3 Baylor Bears. The Huskies haven't faced this team in over four decades, and it's likely it will be a big offensive game with a battle between the quarterbacks.

Washington's starting quarterback, Keith Price, had a very impressive start to the season, helping the team win their first five of six games. They had difficulties facing Nebraska and Stanford, but overall he was exceptional, throwing 21 touchdowns just six games to the season, and ended the season with 29, surpassing the previous record of 28 touchdowns set by Cody Pickett in 2002.

Unfortunately, Price suffered a knee injury in the game against USC, and the Huskies ultimately lost that battle, as well as their next with quarterback Nick Montana getting his first start for the team. Montana had a rather disappointing performance and they lost there too.

The good news for the Huskies is that Price is almost back at 100% after resting for the last few weeks and says he feels "A LOT better." Price had no problem sprinting over 20 yards into the end zone, and was smiling as he remarked, "Still not 100 percent but I am a lot better, I can tell you that."

Price was pretty beat up, and the time off allowed his previously sprained right knee to fully recover in addition to his bruised, non-throwing shoulder and a sprained ankle. Price is at his best after time off between games this season, and he's going to be ready and on fire when the team goes to Texas.

Baylor quarterback, Griffin , became the 77th Heisman Trophy winner on December 10, and is going to be an incredibly tough opponent to face. He was Baylor's Superman and received 405 first-place votes and 1,687 points to capture the Heisman.

Griffin led his team to the most wins in 25 years, throwing for an incredible 3,998 yards and 36 touchdowns. The quarterback also leads the nation with a 192.31 passing efficiency, which is on pace to shatter the NCAA record of 186.0 set by the Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan in 2006.

Anyway you look at it the Huskies will have a big challenge at the Alamo Bowl, but Price's recovery could go a long way in helping his team pull this off. Go Huskies!

K.C. Dermody lives in the Pacific Northwest and became a fan of the Washington Huskies after attending her first game in 1994. Napoleon Kaufman ran for a 91-yard touchdown to beat San Jose State, 34-20, that day, and she has been a fan ever since.
