News Flash: Louisville taps Sanford
Former UNLV head coach Mike Sanford will be introduced as Louisville’s assistant head coach/offensive coordinator on Tuesday, Rivals.com has learned.
Sanford will join Charlie Strong, who took over as Louisville head coach after Steve Kragthrope was fired after three seasons. Sanford was fired after five seasons at UNLV, where he compiled a 15-43 record.
Denbrock joins ND
Mike Denbrock is expected to join the Notre Dame staff, according to IrishIllustrated.com.
Denbrock was Brian Kelly’s offensive coordinator from 1992-95 at Grand Valley State, and was Kelly’s defensive coordinator from 1996-98. Denbrock was an assistant under Tyrone Willingham at Notre Dame and Washington. Denbrock was an associate head coach/special teams coordinator at Indiana State last season.
UNLV coach search narrows
With Jim Livengood in place as athletic director at UNLV, expect the Rebels to name a head football coach soon. The search is believed to be down to two: former Texas A&M coach Dennis Franchione and Montana coach Bobby Hauck. Hauck interviewed for the post Sunday, while Franchione is expected to interview Monday, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Akron hires Latina as OC
Akron head coach Rob Ianello has named John Latina offensive coordinator.
Latina worked as an offensive line coach from 2005-08 at Notre Dame with Ianello. He didn’t coach last season after Charlie Weis fired him following the 2008 season.
