Rivals.com 2009 bowl projectons

  • Print

Here are Rivals.com’s bowl projections this week. We update these weekly, as situations obviously change.

A few notes:

Boise State’s BCS situation bears watching. There is continued talk that if Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma, it would get a BCS at-large berth. Astute readers will note that we have Boise State in a BCS game. That’s because we think Oklahoma beats Oklahoma State. But if the Cowboys win, there seems to be a better than 50-50 chance that they will get a BCS at-large slot.
A bowl’s tie-in with a league doesn’t necessarily mean it will get the third-, fourth-, fifth-, etc., place team from the league; rather, it means it gets the third, fourth, fifth, etc., selection from that league.
Notre Dame is part of the Big East’s bowl lineup when it comes to the Gator Bowl only.
An asterisk denotes a team that will be in the bowl because a league will not be able to fulfill its obligation. This week, we’re saying the ACC, Big Ten and Mountain West fall short of filling their bowl slots. In some situations, other conferences have deals to provide teams if the “original” conference can’t fill its spots; in those instances, the fill-in conference first fills its own bowl slots. If the fill-in conference doesn’t have enough bowl-eligible teams, the bowl then is allowed to pick an at-large team that is bowl eligible.

It is inconceivable to believe that WVU will finish less than Big East number 3...in fact,,if WVU beats Pitt, and then the Bearcats beat pitt...we will be number 2...no way Rutgers beats WV..at least these bowl projections don't have Notre Dame trying to take a big East Slot anymore...which would have been a crock of crap since they wont play in the Big East for Football..but every other damn sport they do...They wont let go of the NBC contract...They could have rules the Big East for years had they only wanted to be fully in the Big east..but since they are not...No Big East bowl slot for them..

These projectins are whack!!! Texas Tech will NOT be playing in the Sun Bowl!!! Tech will be in either the Holiday Bowl or Alamo Bowl....And IF OSU beats OU, Tech will likely get the Cotton Bowl! Rivals needs to update the projections or shut up!!!

Wahufan, if Oregon beats OSU, USC beats Arizona, Zona beats ASU, and Cal beats Washington... you have:
    Oregon 7-2
    OSU/Cal/USC/Stanford 6-3
    Arizona 5-4

The Holiday Bowl gets first choice amongst 2nd place teams... I'm thinking they just might pass on the Beavers and take USC. Then comes the Sun Bowl, and once again, sorry to say, they just might prefer Cal to the Beavers. Then I think it switches off who gets next choice between Emerald/Vegas, but if I recall they often come to 'compromises'... with Stanford being a good local draw, I think there's a good chance they end up at the Emerald. So, despite your disbelief, the Beavers are very possibly heading to Vegas if they aren't heading to Pasadena.

These were projections from before the season began. Nothing has been updated. Rivals has got it all wrong. Since when is Oregon State No. 4/5 in the Pac 10? The Las Vegas Bowl is the clear indication that Rivals has not looked up current rankings and projected outcomes of future games and where all the teams will land. Get real Rivals. Do your homework before posting such ridiculous posts.

I think Arkansas will beat LSU because Arkansas is HOT right now and LSU is down which will put Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl. I think the Gators will squeeze by the Tide and play Texas in the BIG game. I think OSU will beat OU but not sure if they will make it to a BCS bowl, maybe, but I see the other no loss teams from the non bcs will get picked over OSU.
